I have been dating a guy for 2 months and I'm noticing that his habits with his cell phone are really terrible. I think that your cell phone should be turned off/silent during a date, and only answered in emergencies. Am I crazy? Would you do this?

We were out to dinner and he actually made 2 phone calls while we were waiting for our food. He returned a call to his office, and then called his brother (who he lives with) to tell him a joke. He did not get up and leave the table...just sat right there talking on his phone in the restaurant!
After dinner, we get into his car to go to Starbucks (he had to go back to work) ...he calls his friend at work (who he JUST talked to during my dinner) to see if she wants anything from starbucks. He proceeds to talk on the phone, joking and totally flirting, during the entire trip to starbucks.

Last Straw: We were in bed, just finished having SEX, and we hear his phone ring from the other room...he actually got up to ANSWER IT!

You have all given me such wonderful answers...THANK YOU!

I wanted to make sure I'm not crazy for no longer wanting to date someone over something that seems so stupid, but I think this behavior is a deal breaker. If he was great in every other way, I would probably overlook this...but he's not.

Again, thanks for the good advice :)

Thanks again :)

luckily its only been 2 months.... but this sure is a glimpse into any future with this guy....I noticed a couple in a restaurant that were married.... the whole time they were there the guy was talking on the cell phone.. with a break of only a few minutes in between calls .... I never even saw him speak to his wife!... I felt so bad for her.... you might want to think about if you really want to continue on .. personally I would get out NOW! lol..... good luck!

Personally i hate cell phones, and i've been in almost identical situations that you have been in. What i would do is nicely tell him that that bugs you. That's what i tell girls i date. I say, hey can you put the phone away? Or Hey does that thing grow out of your ear? I usually get my point across that I believe that if we are on a date or hanging out that unless it is an emergency, that phone is on vibrate or silent. If i need to say call back the office or whatever, i let my date know that i have to make a call and i go somewhere private. I would just tell him how you feel. If he's too wrapped up in his phone to not get some etiquette you don't need him. And i can't believe the sex thing. If a girl i just had sex with did that, oooooh No Cuddle time, No Hanging out after, i'd book my *** and say see ya later.

That's terrible etiquette...borderline no etiquette at all! Have you talked to him about it? Depending on how long you've been dating and how you feel about him, you might either want to discuss how much this bothers you or just cut him loose. This behavior is downright disrespectful, especially since you brought up the fact that he was flirting with a work friend in front of you. NOT acceptable.

His behavior oon the phone is completely unacceptable, and is not likely to change, at least NOT for the better. Move on. You're worth more to a man that that! You should have his undivided attention........don't settle for less.

He sounds like a jerk. You need counseling if you're going to continue with a guy like that.
