I quote from the Bible
"For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all..." Ecclesiastes 9:5 The soul and the body cannot be separated if life is to continue. In Genesis 2:7 we are told that "man became a living soul". So when the body dies the soul dies. Death is likened to a sleep state in other books of the Bible where the deceased is not conscious, not floating around on a cloud or in heaven or in any pain or torment. They are just asleep. We are promised a resurrection in the future. Just as Jesus died and was resurrected and he resurrected others in the Bible accounts, so the dead are promised the same. From the "New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures".

First of all, you do not have and immortal soul, if you did, then why had no one gone to Heaven before Jesus came to the Earth, 4000 years had came & gone since Adam & Eve, millions of people had died, what did Jesus say to a man of the Pharisees, Nic·o·de'mus was his name, a ruler of the Jews.
John 3:13
Moreover, no man has ascended into heaven but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man.
What is a Soul?
Right in the very first book of the Bible, Genesis, we are told that the soul is not something you have, it is something you are. We read of the creation of Adam, the first human being: “The man came to be a living soul.” (Genesis 2:7) The Hebrew word used here for soul, ne'phesh, occurs well over 700 times in the Hebrew Scriptures, never once conveying the idea of a separate, ethereal, spiritual part of man. On the contrary, the soul is tangible, concrete, physical.
Look up the following cited texts in your own copy of the Bible, for the Hebrew word ne'phesh is found in each of them. They clearly show that the soul can face risk, danger, and even be kidnapped (Deuteronomy 24:7; Judges 9:17; 1 Samuel 19:11); touch things (Job 6:7); be locked up in irons (Psalm 105:18); crave to eat, be afflicted by fasting, and faint from hunger and thirst; and suffer from a wasting disease or even insomnia as a result of grief. (Deuteronomy 12:20; Psalm 35:13; 69:10;) In other words, because your soul is you, your very self, your soul can experience anything you can experience.
Does that mean, then, that the soul can actually die? Yes. Far from being immortal, human souls are spoken of in the Hebrew Scriptures as being “cut off,” or executed, for wrongdoing, being struck fatally, murdered, destroyed, and torn to pieces. (Exodus 31:14; Deuteronomy 19:6; 22:26; Psalm 7:2) “The soul that is sinning—it itself will die,” says Ezekiel 18:4. Clearly, death is the common end of human souls, since all of us sin. (Psalm 51:5) The first man, Adam, was told that the penalty for sin was death—not transfer to the spirit realm and immortality. (Genesis 2:17) And when he sinned, the sentence was pronounced: “For dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19) When Adam and Eve died, they simply became what the Bible often refers to as ‘dead souls’ or ‘deceased souls.’

the concept of a soul and what becomes of the soul after death is based on one's own religious beliefs. Some faiths do not believe in a "soul" while others believe the soul leaves the body upon death. Some faiths believe that the soul is eternal and returns to the Creator upon death thus the concept that life is eternal.
Since the soul is not something one can touch or see, there is no tangible evidence that the soul is eternal. The soul is something that is unique to each individual, and what they believe about the soul and after life is based on their individual and religious beliefs

The hindu scirptures inform us that we are eternal spiritual souls who occupy material bodies. When one body is finished with the soul may move onto another depending on it's desires / actions. The laws governing this are quite intricate and do take some time to understand.

I thought you may want to hear from someone with the NDE.some have considered a fantasy, while the others got uncomfortable, whatever the others think,it was a real experience, and doctors had no answers,
right after we die,for a moment everything will go black, within an instant we will open our eyes again,we feel that our body is lighter, first shock that we get is to watch our own physical body lying down,it is a bit scary,....scary not in a sense of fear, but we will be uncomfortable to find out that physical body was just a vehicle for our souls, and all our life we have thought that was ours,it takes a little bit of time to grasp the reality,to know that spirit is who we relay are,and we have to let go with our physical body, the way we have let go with it tens of times in the past, then at a exact time, thought an opening,or a vortex of energy we will enter, the other dimension,we will enter home, the process of entering feels like going through the tunnel.right at the other side the first entity that we will see,are our deceased loved ones, this serves as rehabilitation for us,to know that death is not merely end,but it is the start, after short period,we will enter the hall of records, where we go through the life review, first everything negative that we have done in our life,we realize all the learning opportunities that we have lost, all the pain and harm that we have brought to the others,we feel sad in this stage, feeling of failure and shame, then through the holographic picture we will see every good thing that we had done, all the opportunities that we have used to grow spiritually, this is the time that we feel proud, feel that we have live in harmony with the chart that we have written for ourselves, then we are asked to forgive ourselves, and everyone else who has done harm to us,then for a brief moment we decide to stay at home, this is like a vacation for us,until the time,we decide to write another chart, and enter the physical body again,to further improve our lacks, and grow spiritually to move towards higher dimension, even though some of us are 5th dimension beings, majority of us are 3rd dimension entities,we are living in a very interesting time,we are arriving the dead line of 2012,the time of ascension, when some of us will move the a higher dimension with mother earth, and those who have grown will experience the incoming chaos, and natural disaster, but in the next life they cant come back to earth, they will be reincarnated on another 3rd dimension planet which is like earth, coz mother earth is going through the ascension this time around, may creative force of universe protect you,and reveal the reality to you.

Please do not believe what they tell you. Your soul is just not going to die when your body dies. To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord. Your soul is going to be in Heaven awaiting judgment on your life. As you know, there is a HEAVEN and yes there is also a HELL. I'm not trying to preach or sound better than anyone...just remember we ALL have to answer for the things we do on earth.

Depends on personal beliefs, I like to think we have a soul and it will go to the ever famous Heaven, but some may say its just a security blanket. And so what if it is? It makes me feel better at night, so having security is fine with me :)

If you think you are subject to nobody, and you deem you are right in thinking so, then why don't you restore to the dying person his soul when it has come up to the throat and you are helplessly watching that he is at the point of death? At that time We are closer to him than you, but you do not see Us. Then, if the dying person be of those nearest to Us, for him there is comfort and good provision and the blissful Garden. And if he be of the people of the right hand, he is greeted with "Peace be to you: You are of the people of the right!" And if he be of the deniers, gone astray, his entertainment is of boiling water and burning in Hell.

i be bady. it leaves the material realm, which is that which our animal sense organs percieve. absent from the body, present with god. we are all one and the same and when the body dies we go back to the oneness, or rather the material illusion has ended and we finally see the true reality. we then begin the next phase of our development.

It depends what you would rather believe. If you're close to the end, then a belief that our souls merge with god isn't a bad one. If you have plenty of life in you and you are feeling strong, then you might want to think that we just die. It's up to you really and probably won't change very much.
