Just as I figured another person trying to turn people against God. God is where it all began and will also end. All the scientitists out there trying to figure out the Bible in a scientific way always brings about questions like this. God is not evil. Read the rest of the bible instead of stumbling across one verse and using that for your argument. It doesn't end with that verse, there is much more.

Jesus said he came to put a sword, not for Christians to kill, but to make a decision.....Jesus told Christians to love their enemies.
What are you reasoning that way for? I will not listen to you to kill anyone. You make no sense here. We are supposed to pray for all, hoping they will repent and live.
The sword symbolizes division. It means people/families will be divided, some for his rule, others for Satan's.
Our love for God and Jesus should definitely come first. Even if it does, it does the most good anyway.
You can love God and Jesus by reading about their love for us. This takes time. If you are sincere, it will happen.
For one thing, our parents have given us temporary life, however Jesus purchased eternal life for us, so he should be appreciated even more.
Romans 2:4 ..the kindly quality of God is trying to lead you to repentance.

Yes, it is a wonder verse, showing that we must love God more, that is just common and natural, since God is the master of all.
And yes if you don't love God more, then you don't fully trust him and will go to hell.
It does not say to kill your family you are merely taking it out of context of course ( which was what you wanted, since you merely wish to lie and cause trouble)

1Jo 4:7 My dear friends, we must love each other. Love comes from God, and when we love each other, it shows that we have been given new life. We are now God's children, and we know him.
1Jo 4:8 God is love, and anyone who doesn't love others has never known him.
1Jo 4:9 God showed his love for us when he sent his only Son into the world to give us life.
1Jo 4:10 Real love isn't our love for God, but his love for us. God sent his Son to be the sacrifice by which our sins are forgiven.
1Jo 4:11 Dear friends, since God loved us this much, we must love each other.
1Jo 4:12 No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is truly in our hearts.
1Jo 4:13 God has given us his Spirit. That is how we know that we are one with him, just as he is one with us.
1Jo 4:14 God sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. We saw his Son and are now telling others about him.
1Jo 4:15 God stays one with everyone who openly says that Jesus is the Son of God. That's how we stay one with God
1Jo 4:16 and are sure that God loves us. God is love. If we keep on loving others, we will stay one in our hearts with God, and he will stay one with us.
1Jo 4:17 If we truly love others and live as Christ did in this world, we won't be worried about the day of judgment.
1Jo 4:18 A real love for others will chase those worries away. The thought of being punished is what makes us afraid. It shows that we have not really learned to love.
1Jo 4:19 We love because God loved us first.
1Jo 4:20 But if we say we love God and don't love each other, we are liars. We cannot see God. So how can we love God, if we don't love the people we can see?
1Jo 4:21 The commandment that God has given us is: "Love God and love each other!"

This question is beginning to get redundant.
Who has not noticed the controversy that surrounds Christianity? In our nation? In our towns? In our families?
Does this controversy surprise you?
I don't see why it ought to...here is Jesus warning you ahead of time that it would be so.
Seems He got one right! Imagine that!

Jesus died on the cross so that we wouldn't have to make sacrifices to him like that. In the Bible days, people had to dsacrifice things such as animals due to their sins. As I said this is why Jesus died for us. He sacrificed his own body for our sins so that we do not have to make those sacrifices any more.

Christians are very selective about what parts of the Bible they believe, huh?
Christians: don't forget, anything a woman touches on her period is "dirty" --- it says so right in Leviticus 25.

“Do not think I came to put peace upon the earth,” he said. “I came to put, not peace, but a sword. For I came to cause division, with a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a young wife against her mother-in-law. Indeed, a man’s enemies will be persons of his own household.”—Matt. 10:34-36.
Jesus did not go around stirring up trouble within families, intentionally setting family members against one another. He had genuine love for people and wanted to see them live together in peace. However, his teachings did have the effect of a sword upon some families, dividing members who accepted Bible truth from those who clung to false religious traditions. This was not the fault of Jesus or the minister bringing his teachings, but the fault rested with the family members who refused to examine their traditional religious ideas in the light of God’s inspired Word. They are the ones who stirred up trouble and fought against those who wanted to study the Bible.
Therefore, it is not surprising today that a person meets opposition from friends and relatives when he begins to study the Bible regularly.
Some may have vehemently objected, even going to the extreme of threatening you with unpleasant consequences unless you gave up the study.
What will you do? Will you give up the study because of fear of displeasing relatives and neighbors? Are you more concerned with pleasing them than with pleasing God?
Under such circumstances one may be tempted to rationalize that God does not expect us to study his Word if it would endanger these natural family ties.
But is that what Jesus said? After he explained that one’s “enemies will be persons of his own household,” he went on to say: “He that has greater affection for father or mother than for me is not worthy of me; and he that has greater affection for son or daughter than for me is not worthy of me.” And, on another occasion, he emphasized the degree of the love one must have for him by saying: “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own soul, he cannot be my disciple.”—Matt. 10:37; Luke 14:26.
Jesus did not mean that Christians must literally hate their relatives, but, rather, that they must love God more than father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, or even their present earthly life. This means that your love for God and his Word must be so strong that even close fleshly relatives will not be allowed to interfere with your study of the Bible. It is true that children are commanded to respect their parents, and husbands and wives are instructed to love one another, but when it comes to a decision of whom to obey, God should come first.
