Some feathers on a piece of rope, tied to a branch or something like that. They love it if you play with them using something like this. If you really want to make them happy, you should be involved in the playing. They get very mellow from that.
A catniptoy is for most cats great. Just watch out that the plaything isn't to small (mine allmost choked on a little fake mouse).

And I Got Her A Toy. Its Called A Cat Dancer.Thats She Swats Around When I Hold It. And We Also Play Fetch. I Throw The Toy And She Brings It Back. But You Have To Play With Your Cat. Any old toy for cats will do.
Cats will play with just about anything.
Older cats don't seem to have a whole lot of interest in play.
I used to play with my friends cat with a small laser pointer.
Point dot on floor and let cat chase and stalk.
Other than that the cat liked to lay in the sun.
Also liked to be pet.
Cats have different personalities.

I got a toy at the pet store that includes a plastic stick with a long string and feathers on the end. Both of my cats love it! Even the older one that I thought wouldn't play much anymore.
You can also pick up some small mice and cat balls pretty cheap.

Cats love string. Dangle some around and it will be happy. Try looking in the pet section at like Wal-Mart or check out Petsmart stores for some ideas.

get some wax paper and crumple it up. string is always good. Go to walmart and pick up some new toys. take your cat to a new environemt, like a friend's house or something for a few hours. if you have leash trained your cat, take it out to the park.

normal stuff does your cat like to play with string when you hold it. or you could even get a toy mouse the kind that moves around when you stick a battery in it that may be a little more expensive but cats love stuff like that.

Try any toy with catnip in it, my cats love to play hockey with clothespins across my kitchen floor. If those things do not work try getting him another cat to play with as long as he tolerates other cats. He might just be lonely.

My cat really loves the rings that come off gallons of milk- the little thing the screw top comes attached to. Laser pointers are always fun too.

That's funny - my cats love those rings off the milk jugs also !! My daughter's cat loves the laser light. You don't have to spend tons of money - a empty cardboard box, a shoelace, a tennis ball ? Sometimes it's just that they want YOU to play with them.
Enjoy !!
