A whole lot. because there are morons with no real jobs breeding them. Someone who answered you question before me breeds mutts...whats the point of that when there are a ton of them in shelters and homeless? Adding to the homeless dog population. We need to start caring about this..instead of people breeding these mixed breeds, and any other breed irresponsibly.

When hurricane Katrina hit there were many lives that were saved and many were lost. Most of the lost were animals. God put animals on this great earth for us to take care of and to love. There were thousands that had to be left behind. I can only imagine the terrible death they all received. I believe that all amimals have feelings and know right from wrong, when they are trained properly. And to think that a dog or a cat or any animal for that matter would swim, swim, swim and swim some more looking for their loved ones, thinking they had been forgotten, then be so tired they just gave up, truly saddens me. But everything happens for a reason. That is just one state. I think there are to many to count.

Way to many.. People need to get their animal spayed or neutered, Here where I live, there are more stray cats than there are cats that belong to someone. I feel sorry for the strays but they are so wild now that no one can catch them. People move and just leave the cat behind. It is a shame.

I have a dog & a cat in my household. I definitely think there are more cats than dogs since cats can handle pregnancy much better than dogs, but they can have WAY TOO many kittens! Ehh. I assume there is more dogs & cats than people, but I may be wrong.

I read in the book "Cesar's Way", The dog trainer that is famous on the national geographic channel, that there are sixty-five million pet dogs in America. For the rest of the world... I don't know!

How about a reality check: It's been estimated that 250 thousand pets had to be left behind in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. Various aid organizations estimated that of those, only about 15,000 were saved. The ones that didn't make it died lingering, painful deaths alone and far away from the people who loved and cared for them.
Pretty sad that we couldn't do any better than that, isn't it?

loads and its a pity. I see dogs cats horses all sorts of animals that are being treated so badly. its a shame that people shouldn't have to go through a major series of checks before being allowed to own an animal. I live on a farm and people constantly dump their unwanted animals on my property. its terrible.

not enough dogs way to many cats to the extent they are baiting cats here in Australia because they are in plague proportion in the wild and are killing all the native small animals and birds
