Well I was in the AF but I was not an electrician and from what I noticed, no matter what job you have in the AF you will have to go overseas and it may or may not be exactly what you thought it was going to be like. If you become certified and take a few classes here and there, when you get out you will have a better chance of finding a good paying job. It was a great experience and helped me pay for school but it really hasn't helped me out as far as jobs go. But then again, my job wasn't exactly the greatest for career advancement when I got out. My best advice would be to do some research online and ask your recruiter what qualifications you will have when you get out.
Check out this website and scroll down to page 6, where it gives descriptions for electrician jobs. There are many different types. http://www.afcesa.af.mil/userdocuments/publications/AFpublications/ceo/ceof/cfetp_civ_ofc/WGElectrical.doc

Most of the electricians on-base are Civil Service employees and/or contractors... some of course for deployment.
The Air Force does have some electrical specialist positions, but they're more in communications and computer support. The experience and training is very good and many businesses like seeing military backgrounds because it shows discipline and ability to follow directions.
