I did have my hair cut very short a couple weeks ago, I don't like it much, I feel quite exposed but it is growing slowly.

No, they do use several devotionals like praying through out the day, and self-flagellation weekly with a small chain like garter no blood or guts just uncomfortable, regular undies I'm sure. Self-flagellation has been around for centuries a few (not every) Opus Dei members practice a very mild form the stuff you saw in ( I'm guessing) Da Vinci Code was what flagellites used in circa 1600.At that time thousand and thousands existed. I'm not an expert and I'm sure you can find more answers on an Opus Dei site about them.

They use the cilice, some kind of metal belt with barbs adjusted to the thigh. Opus Dei members say it only cause a small discomfort, I tried one once and it hurts, maybe they've got accustomed to it. I don't think every member do this though.

Among other things they do are: cold showers and sleeping in the floor. Nutty people.

No but they wear barbed wire around their thigh.

Yes. That way self-flagellation doesn't hurt.
