It means that you should point out other peoples problems when you have the same problems yourself.
i.e. You wouldn't want someone throwing a stone back at your glass house would you?

It basically means that we shouldn’t complain about others if we are as bad as they are. Don't be a hypocrite. A hypocrite is someone who doesn't 'practice what they preach'. For example, a mean person who is telling everyone to stop being mean is a hypocrite because he himself isn't being nice.
If you live in a glass house, the last thing you want is somebody throwing stones at you, so don't throw stones at others.
If you don't want people to criticize or make fun of you, don't criticize or make fun of others.
Hope this helps!

The more visible your life is - especially as a public figure - the more likely you will break YOUR OWN house if you throw stones at at someone else. Thus you find politicians tend to be somewhat restrained in their criticism of other politicians and let their supporters do the stone throwing - hopefully at some distance from their fragile glass house. As politicans become more adept at the use of proxy stone throwers, they become not mere politicians, but "statesmen". You'd never know some politicians are ideological opposites by the way they behave toward each other in public. An example of the careful behavior between glass housed politicians, is the US Senate. You see a very high level of protection between ideological enemies in the Senate. Stones are being thrown and even covertly encouraged by the Senators, BUT they are being thrown by faceless voters and opinion makers who are not at political risk (people who are not in glass houses).

Stones can break glass if you throw them hard enough. Broken windows are expensive to replace. So if you live in a glass house, throwing stones or any hard objects is probably not a good idea.

it means that we all have our downfalls and that unless you want other to see all your faults dont point out others. you never know where a person is emotionally and what kind of pressures and stress they are under, mabye the last thing in the world they need is an insult or anger.

same as people should look in their own backyards before talking crap......or in Laymans' terms....Don't talk crap if you have had a past of your own.....or check the skeletons in your own closet.... Basically, keep your mouth shut about opinions on others, it could bite you in the ***.

Since their house is made of glass, if they threw a stone/rock then they would break their house.
