According to http://www.poison-ivy.org/, no you can't usually give to someone else or spread it further on yourself, though you can get it from touching your clothes if they have been in contact with the plant.

If the oil that causes the irritation is still on your skin and you brush up against someone else, then that person will likely have an allergic reaction the same as yours. I once had an outdoor cat that would walk through the woods and bring poison ivy oil back in on its fur. Gave me poison ivy every spring and summer even though I didn't come into contact with the vine by myself.

The only way to transfer poison ivy is through the oil of the plant that is why you have to make sure you wash all clothes and bedding after contact.

I have poison ivy right now...I catch it a few times a year and it drives me crazy. I have caught it from gloves I used the year before...I've caught it from my dog...and from the plant itself, But I've never caught it from another person.

As a kid I was highly alergic to it as well as sumac, and oak. As a kid I could catch it just by being near someone, let alone touch them. As an adult I now have to make contact with the plant itself or the person who has it. So stay away from me please.

Yes you can. My dog used to come home and give it to me. The worst case ever was when I was under marital stress. It was the only time I went to the doctor.

Sure. Cut the plant at the root......stick it in a box, and send it to someone either Fedex or UPS. Easy.

Some of us are immune to it - I've never had poison ivy cause a reaction.

If someone is allergy to it, so get just by looking at it.
