That depends on the dog!
If you have a mastiff puppy and raise it around cats, it should be great with them.
If you get (or have) an older dog, you will have to assess how it will be. Keeping it on a lead, you can see how it behaves when you encounter cats on walks.
Be careful and cautious, for the safety of the cat ... many large dogs do kill cats. So if you don't know a dogs temperament and history, err on the side of caution.

Any animal properly socialized can learn to get along with another species especially in this case. I have a client with a very large and very mean mastiff that has a cat too. And the cat rules over the dog.

I've had French and Neapolitan mastiffs and they have all been great with cats, babies and small dogs! The younger you get them used to other critters, the better, but they are a pretty laid-back breed and not very predatory.

She must be fantastic I also have a 10 a million/2 month previous English mastiff and she or he's no longer around cats lots yet whilst we pass some the place that has cats she merely sniffs them...it rather is prob. going to be your cats that dont like her. lots of the cats swing at my canines and that i think of its merely because of the fact of ways huge she is. savour your canines they're sooooo LOVING!!!!
