To format your harddrive you will need to get a recovery disc or a Windows CD.
No boot disc is necessary unless you are trying to install Windows 95.
The recovery disc will usually come with your computer, if you dont have one, you will need to call your computer manufacturing company and order one.
The recovery disc and the windows CD will partition your harddrive and it will wipe out your memory and start from fresh.
This will kill all the viruses and other harmful agents from your computer.
You should get an antivirus and pest control to avoid these agents from entering your system after you reformat.

Well first of all do you have the windows XP cd? If so you are all set.
First restart your computer with the windows xp cd on the cd drive.
Second, a screen declaring press any key if you would like to boot from the cd will appear, eventually press any key.
Third, after the cd does several inspection to your computer, it will then ask you in what drive do you want to install windows XP.
Fourth, select your primary drive (usually C: drive) and then continue until a screen come up saying would you like to format your hard drive, select which drive to format and MAKE SURE YOU PICK FORMAT NTFS WAY NOT FAT32.
Fifth, after formating is done, it will direclty go into the setup files. When this is done, it will ask to restart the computer.
Sixth, after restarting, the screen saying press any key to boost from cd come is going to come out, DO NOT PRESS ANY KEY, just let it boost to the logo screen, after that, the Window XP setup screen will show up to install all the regular files. Soon your gonna have to provide the CD KEY, and after that you should be all set...
One thing i take into cosideration before formating, is to dowload your internet drivers so you can go to the internet and get the rest of the necessary drivers after you succesfully installed a fresh Windows XP.

First of all do you have the original software cd that came with your computer? If so then back-up and save all the data and any drivers that you have installed make sure that you still have them on cd, in case they are not on the original software cd that came with your PC. If you have all the above, then put the original software cd in your pc and reboot and follow the onscreen instructions. Your hard drive will be wiped clean and re-formatted during the install process so it's important for you to back-up and save any info you might need later.
Good luck and I hope this helps.

put the windows cd in the computer and restart the computer. go into set up(when your computer first starts to boot up you should see somthing like press f4 for setup, it could be a different button i used f4 for example. You have to find the area in the setup where have the "booting" steps usally it is removalbe(floppy) then hard drive the cd. You need to change it so cd is the first one. save it then restart again. It should boot off the cd now and when it does windows will go into its own set up. it will ask you what you want to do. answer the questions and you should be on your way.

go to dos prompt type format
like if u want to format c, it would be format c: and then insert the XP disk to re-install XP.
Beware!!! formatting will remove all data.. so u have to make up ur mind whether u want to format the system or repair Windows Xp.. consult someone who is qualified..before u do something wrong..
