Invited to a friend's house tonight. He is having some friends over. His wife is cooking dinner. After dinner, the guys will be playing poker.
Out of courtesy / etiquette, should I bring anything over? A bottle of wine, beer, cigars, something else?

I only know the husband and his wife, not any of the other people who will be there.

Thanks.

Yes, it is proper to bring something over even if you aren't asked to do it. I am from the south and we always take something and never go to someones house empty handed. 6 pack of beer, bottle of wine, flowers, desert. If they took the time and expense to have people over to their house, the least you can do is come over with a "Good-will item". The beer and wine might not get drunk that night, the desert might not be eaten while you are there but it will mean something to the people that invited you over. It also shows respect for your hosts and a thank you for having them. If you take flowers, make sure that you hand them directly to the wife and say Thank you. She is the one that is cooking and most likely will clean up after you, even if you clean up your own area at the table, she will most likely do the rest and the flowers are a thank you to her!

You can tell the hostess that you want to bring something and ask her what she thinks if you bring "a bottle of wine, beer, cigars, something else". I think you should take something to drink since there will already be food there.

A nice bottle of wine for her would be nice since she did all the cooking for you and the others.

I'd bring booze or whatever it is you want to drink - with enough to share. And you can always call while your on your way, and ask if there's anything they might need (usually there's last-minute things that people forget).

Well...making it easy...chips and dip would be the best thing, possibly a homemade ham-ball and crackers?

Beer is always good at card games ^_^ I guess, but I'm pretty sure youd be welcome just bringing yourself too.
