This isn't actually against polygamy as much as it is for monogamy.
Ephesians 5:31-32 (NLT)
"A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one."
The actual word Polygamy is not used in the Bible.
Other references:
Genesis 2:24
Matthew 19:5
I Corinthians 6:16
Polygamy was practiced in the Old Testament but Christ set the record straight with the New Tastament. It goes back to Genesis 2:24. The Bible doesn't support ploygamy it just has a historical record of it.

Go to Bible Gateway and click on topics, then enter poligamy. You will find many references in the Bible, both Old and New Testament, that refers to it, and condemns it. These are just a sample below.
"He must not take many wives, or his heart will be led astray. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold." Deuteronomy 17:17
"and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'" Matthew 19:5
"7'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,[b] 8and the two will become one flesh.'[c] So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
10When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery." Mark 10:7-12

There is nothing in the bible against polygamy. It was considered a scared rite by some of the ancient biblical tribes. Many people specualte on the exact reasons for polygamy, but most of them are rooted in the fact that men often died in wars, and women were left with no options other than to marry into a polygamous marraige to be taken care of.

Here...
For what it's worth there are more verses saying it's okay.
Gen.2:24
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Dt.17:17
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself.
Mt.19:4-5
Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh.
Mt.19:9
Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Mk.10:11
Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.
1 Cor.7:2
Let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
Eph.5:33
Let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Some will argue that the Bible has many examples of polygamist - hence it must be OK. Don't confuse that because God tolerated it for a while under certain conditions because of the hardness of their hearts, but was not the way it was intended from the beginning.
The verses:
God created one woman for one man (see Genesis 1:27 2:21-25).
Deuteronomy 17:17 explicitly instructed the king not to “multiply wives.”
Moses’ law said, the king “shall not multiply horses to himself… Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold” (Deuteronomy 17:16-17).
"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh" (singular marriage) (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19.4-6).

Only scant verses in reference to a man leaving his home to be with a wife. Though, it seems, almost all of His Chosen, the main characters in the Bible, all had more than one wife and it never shows them being punished for taking them on. Though David was punished for killing another man to take his wife... murder and adultery was what was punished. So it doesn't appear that it bothers God at all to have more than one wife.

There is no rule in the bible against it, except for church elders who are to be the husband of one wife.
Old Testement ( esp in wealthy households) it was commom to have many wifes. It was not as commom by the time of the NT, it is merely illegal in the US by government rules and also many other nations, but in areas where it is allowed by the government, it would not be "unchristian" to have more than one wife

There are quite a few, starting with the fact that God only created one wife for Adam.
Mal 2:14 Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.
Pro 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Mat 19:4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,
Mat 19:5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
Mat 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder
Eph 5:28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Eph 5:29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Eph 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Eph 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Eph 5:33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Tit 1:6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
These are only a few. I'm sure there are many, many more.
Was polygamy God's idea? Or man's lust? Evidently, it caused problems every time.....
