older cameras: name of the "bubble," or mechanism the photographer used to shoot the picture?

Do you mean the "bulb"? The little thing at the end of a wire or tube that you squeeze to shoot the picture---I think that's what it was called.

Same thing as the switch at the end of the cable (which screws onto the camera at the shutter release.)
