Norton IS a virus. it'll slow your machine to a crawl guaranteed.
& you can never satisfy it's update requirements for more than a few hours [...if that...] no matter WHAT you do.
do yourself a favor & DELETE Norton immediately.

AntiVir personal is free, & infinitely more powerful than norton.

[both AVG and AVAST are amateurs by comparison.]

the STRONGEST antivirus is Kaspersky, currently the undisputed champion if you insist on paying for protection.
http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/
but it does offer an EXCELLENT 30 day trial.

Whatever you decide, use Kaspersky's free online scanner as a benchmark to make sure your chosen software is catching everything. all you AVG & AVAST users... that applies to you too.

Norton should only be used on high end commercial use computers as the system overhead is so high. So unless you have a top of the line system and are willing to have it act like a 5 year old system, do not use Norton or McAfee.

I've checked their website and theres no free downloads. Unless you want to check if you have viruses for free then I think yes. Norton is about $50 in USA pretty cheap.

Don't. And when you don't renew it, it doesn't upgrade for new viruses. I also had AVG, and it did not find two viruses I had on my computer. I knew I had one, but only Avast found them.

Avast is FREE, and it found two viruses on my pc that Norton and AVG did not. I love it. It updates automatically (as does AVG), and it just has more options. http://www.avast.com

Don't bother. Get AVG Free. Try going to www.grisoft.com. It's better, and it's actually free.

Find a ISP that offers it and subscribe with them.

The problem with commercial software is that you need to pay for it.

Try AVG.
