Here in San Antonio it is common to see car after car running red lights. I've seen police look the other way & sometimes they run them too. If you have a green light here, you have to slow down in case someone is running the red! Is this trend isolated to San Antonio, or is it a national trend? Scary!

I live in Central Texas & see it on occasion. However, I was in SA all last week & saw it occur several times. For instance, at Blanco/1604, my light turned green & just as I was about to go forward two cars went screaming through the intersection. I also saw it occur at Marbach/Military Dr, 410/Military Dr., 410/151 & IH-10/Huebner. This within a span of a few days. I travel to Houston & D/FW from time to time & occasionally see it. Maybe because I was in SA for a full week & did a lot of driving around I was able to see more instances. I don't know.
I guess some people feel their time is more important than others, even when it could result in the injury or death of someone including themselves.
My advice is if you see the cops not enforcing the traffic laws, report it. A lot of departments purposely put patrol cars at dangerous intersections in order to project a law enforcement presence. Sometimes the cars are manned, other times not.
Be careful & keep your eyes open!

It's common all over the world. It all depends on the local police force. People without law enforcement will not police themselves.
Red light cameras installed in Singapore almost twenty years ago worked.
In Indonesia they have cement cops (a statue of a cop with a painted uniform) at the intersections to make a driver think a cop is watching them. In Europe they have round-a-bouts that can be just as dangerous. Idiots speed through them as if they were running a red light.
A crackdown in Houston ten years ago worked, but it was only temporary. The local police officers can't watch every intersection. But that is the only way to stop it...
People will always run red lights. Last week a friend of mine just got hit by a woman who ran a red light. Yesterday, there was a huge accident by my home from a person who ran a red light.
It's 2006 and red lights have been around for hundreds of years. Every one of us has grown up knowing what running a red light can do.
Find one person who hasn't seen an accident caused by running a red light. And still, people run red lights.
All I can say is be care full. Some idiot could kill you.

Of course they mean "stop"! That's really awful when people - especially cops!!! - ignore that. People's lives are at stake!
I have a friend who was just hit this week on his motorcycle by a woman that ran a red light. Now he won't be able to walk for 6 months. Then she lost control and smashed another car into the traffic light pole. Thank God nobody died! Everytime I pass the intersection & watch construction workers fixing the pole it makes me sick. And this happened in a regular sized town near San Francisco.
Fortunately I rarely see people run reds and usually a flash goes off from the traffic cameras put up in major intersections. In fact, in the big cities here (like SF), people stop at "yellow".

pretty sure it a National trend, Here in Detroit people drive like nuts too. BUT...I have been to San Antonio and even if I'm doin 110 on the freeway people are passing me left and right. People know the cops are lenient there so they push it more than others i think though.

Yes... they do mean stop, but for some going the other way a yellow light means speed up to beat the red. It is pretty common in Plano (Dallas). So the rule is to wait a couple of seconds after your light turns green to protect yourself from those running the red lights.

Sad isn't it? In MN. People have to run red lights making left turns, becuase all left turns don't have green arrows. People are so impatient now a days.
