I started a very physical job about 4 months ago and since then have stayed at the same weight but the muscles in my arms, shoulders, legs and chest are signifigantly bigger. I have always been told that muscle weighs more than fat so how is this possible? I should mention that I am 6'0 and weigh 145 so I am pretty skinny.

Sure!
Doing all that physical work, you burned off a lot of fat. At the same time, you gained muscle.
However, the amount of fat you lost is MORE than the muscle you gained. Therefore, even though muscle weighs more than fat, your weight stayed the same.

Example: Let's say you lost 3 blobs of fat and gained 1 chunk of muscle. Let's also say that a blob weighs 3 pounds, and a chunk weighs 9 pounds.
You lost: 3 blobs x 3 pounds = 9 pounds
You gained: 1 chunk x 9 pounds = 9 pounds
Your weight stayed the same.

Muscle does weigh more than fat, but it also takes up less room. It is possible to lose fat, gain muscle, become more toned, but remain the same weight and more or less the same size. You have probably lost fat from other areas, in addition to gaining muscles in your upper body.

you might have had the muscles before but haven't used them so they became fat, but now that you are using them you might be developing the fat into muscle.
