Most baby shampoos that claim this have a chemical called an "Ampholyte" in them. It has anesthetic properties that numb the eyes so the shampoo burn is not felt. These products clean the childs hair and scalp well but usually have strong detergents in them and a high ph level. If you look at the childs eyes after using them, the eyes are very red and irritated ,but there is no pain, therefore no crying.
