They should be killed.

"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you ... Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die." -- Dt.13:6-10

Its not that easy to find stones lying on the road these days. I think my country transformed pretty much to New Testament traditions :-P

That portion of scripture is directed towards a different dispensation. The New testament changes everything with obedience through faith and not physical action. God is not focused on outward conformity but on the soul and spirit. Always remember a context without a pretext is no text. The Old Testament is historical and proves the forth coming of Christ and proves the Bible through prophecy. Paul sat with sinners and saints alike. Nobody was stoned other than the saints themselves. Forgive other as you are forgiven through the shed blood of the cross. The Lord himself will sort all that out as His righteousness feels fit. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Have faith. That is all He expects us to do. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Lord, you don't have nothing better to do then to discredit God. Thats soo shallow. You need to get a life and ask a real question. Stop trying to be right. Who cares. You don't get it...no matter what you say people will believe what they want. How does your life look to you? Is there room for improvement. If there is then I suggest you handle that first. You on here being stupid. Who made your mind and mouth truth? If you don't want to believe in God... then don't. No body on here holding a gun to your head. If talking about God makes you sick. Then go help some of them starving kids and homeless people. Prove that your way is better with action in helping people. No body don't want to hear that sh** about how you interpet the Bible. That's how you see it. It doesn't make it true. You think on a human level. My thinking is supernatural.

That was a command given to the Jews before Jesus came. Now we are called to....

...And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. 2 Timothy 2:24-26

The Mosaic Law was originally given for the Children of Israel (God's children) only. It applied only to those who were in covenant relationship with Yahweh, not to Gentiles (pagans and unbelievers). Unless you were a practising Jew who renounced your faith to serve other gods you would not be stoned for not believing Yahweh.

The purpose of Old Testament law is very much misunderstood both by Christians and by those outside the church. To try and explain in detail would probably mean writing a book, but please consider the following.

God did not want to give man a set of laws in the first place, but man insisted. Read the story of the Exodus carefully and you will see that God wanted a personal relationship with His children and wanted to talk to them directly. Man got scared and uncomfortable hearing directly from God and begged Moses to be their intermediary, resulting in the start of the Levitical Priesthood and the codification of many existing laws plus the introduction of new ones.

When we choose to ask for something that is not in line with God's revealed perfect will, He sometimes let's us have what we ask for. Another example is that of Israel rejecting God as their ruler, wanting to be like other nations, and asking for a king. Be warned, they got Saul who was not of the tribe of Judah and did not possess any of the other necessary qualities.

Once the Law had been given, it served more than one purpose:

It restricted the punishments handed out to those who transgressed e.g. it stopped you being killed for knocking someone's tooth out, the maximum punishment allowed was that you suffered the same fate.

It served as a guide or mentor until Jesus came to demonstrate and teach the Father's perfect will.

The written law was meant to conclusively prove to man that he could not keep God's commands in his own power. The Pharisees and others soon substituted their own rules to try and get round God's rules. The only way man can keep God's laws is by relying on the power of the risen Christ within him.

I'm obeying God simply by proclaiming the truth and relying on Holy Spirit alone to convict you of it. He's not waiting to stone you, He's waiting to lead you into the presence of the True and Living God. Have you got the bottle to meet Him?

Although your quote is correct, it is no longer valid under new testament law. The elders brought a woman caught in the very act of adultery to Jesus demanding that she be stoned and they referred to the very law you quoted. Here is what happened.

John 8:7

So when they continued asking him to stone her, he lifted up himself and said unto them "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."
And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
And they that heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, "Where are those that accused you? Has no man condemned thee?"
She said, "No man, Lord." and Jesus said unto her, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more."

You know, this is interesting as even though we don't stone people, it shows how serious God takes what people do to try and keep people from believing in him. It is really serious business making fun of God and his word. The old testament just shows how serious, and thank God we are in the new or this would be in force today..

what you are asking is,should there be tolerance in todays society or follow the words of the past? Some would live by the word and some would live and let live.I think the BIG GUY is looking down on us and shaking his head in dissapointment.I think the rules change with the game. surely the world is a differant place than when those words were written.Tolerance.And let Him be the judge.

You are already spiritually dead.

But that can change. Your mortal soul can be immortal.

Assimilate from Christ the tree of life.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

"But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." (John 8:7) It is not for me to judge your actions, but rather God deals out justice to all. But it is those who stand before God and say, "Have mercy on me Lord, a sinner." That are humbled in the sight of the Lord and are forgiven, whatever it might be. Jesus came to save all people and unite us. I would not stone you, only show you the love that God has shown me. Take heart, the Lord of heaven and earth has defeated sin.
