He is leaving to go to another school and I am his Matron so cannot be too crude. He loves rugby and cricket and broke his arm last term during a rugby game. He is a friendly boy who is popular with the girls. I would like him to remember this school fondly.

I would take a quote from Dr. Seuss "Oh the Places you'll go."

Maybe "Congratulatiions! Today is your day. You're off to Great Places! You're off and away!.....And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)

I think honesty works best. Tell him you, like all the other girls at school, have truly enjoyed having his acquaintance and will sorely miss his presence next term. Tell him you send all your best thoughts with him on this new adventure and hope he'll take better care of himself in the new school's sports program, after all he only has two arms. You might end it by saying you are always available for friendly advice; he need only email and your life experience is at his beck. Last of all, tell him that knowing him has been such a pleasure that you hope you will see him again in future days.
