Misinformation and emblishments of private e-mail to various family. Appears my e-mails were forwarded to the entire family. As a result my reputation has been severly damaged.

Send out a carefully worded clarification to all who received your forwarded email without your consent. Let them know that the person who forwarded it to them is a troublemaker and gossip and they should understand that if this person has done it to one family member they could do it to any other family member as well. Apologize for any misunderstandings the incident may have caused and let them know you personally have learned a valuable lesson from all of this.
Second, cut off all contact with the person who did this to you. If you see them in a family situation, treat them with complete indifference as if they are so insignificant they do not matter to you. This means indifference without showing anger, eventhough you have every right to be angry and hurt. Let it go and don't let them continue to be a factor in your life.

sending an e-mail is like sending a voice recording. It's there forever. If you said something in the email that you shouldn't have, then step up and take your medicine.

The way that you stop any rumor mill is to not take part in it. Don't gossip and don't empower people who do by responding to it.

If gossip who cares, if fact then worry.

Write an e-mail explaining in a calm voice the facts. Do nothing more. In time things will correct themselves.

However, if it was true, then stop doing what they say you are doing.

Well, take it as a lesson learned and don't divulge personal information you don't want the entire family to know any more to the ones that broke your confidences.

Never put anything in writing that you wouldn't want others to see.
