I have a partner in the states and i'm british. We've been together for 6yrs now we want to get married and we have children together. However, at every point we find an obstacle that stops us from being husband and wife. Both our countries stop us at every point at being a family. What should we do?

I am british also and my husband is a US citizen. It was too difficult for me to get into the US so we got married in Houston and hubby came over here to live. Getting an Entry clearance visa is relatively easy (but expensive) after 2 years he can apply for residency like my husband will in October.........that is your best option......

Wait, do you think you and your partner will ever becomes as one?If no just live together as common-law and wait see what your statues will be like in a couple of years, for now Britain is in a stressful time with all that problems with those Arabs and those from certain Caribean countries. If not kept in check for sure Britain will be the next home of Terrorists cross the board.

You need to come here on a tourist visa and get married to him/her, through justice of the peace.

Go to the INS webpage and it will tell you what you need to do to start filing the proper documents for residency.

My husband came here with tourist visa and we got married. Its a long process but eventually you will get residency.

Once you come here and get married though, you can't go back to Great Britain or anywhere else because you will not be allowed to come back into the states.

Good luck and hope this helps!

Nonsense! If you want to be husband and wife, you go over to the States on a tourist visa .... get married post haste ... send in the papers to the immigration, and bob's your uncle! You can't be deported even if your tourist visa has expired IF you've filed your papers with the INS ... if you're married to a U.S.citizen you WILL get your green card ... unless of course you're a terrorist or hardened criminal .... loads of people have done it ... while you're waiting on the green card, you can always get pregnant ... give birth here ... and hey presto, you're the mother of an American citizen ... :)

And oh Angela, you CAN go back and visit abroad if you want to ... while you're waiting on your green card, you just have to fill in another form saying you want to go abroad, and return to the U.S. ... again, that will cost you a few bucks, but well worth it ...

well if he is from the states and you are british sounds like long distance if you have been together for 6 years that is great but at one point in time you will have to make opposite sides of the world meet

You need to get a passport to America. While you're here, get married. Then you can start the paperwork to become an American citizen. This would be the quickest way.
