Only the US and Russia automatically allow citizenship by birth.... it is your parents citizenship.... not your location at birth that determine your citizenship.... as it should be.. Canada did until 5 years ago then they changed too.

Many countries are thinking of changing that-since people are abusing it for personal gain.

As far as I know, the vast majority of countries grant automatic citizenship to anyone born within their boundaries. The only exceptions that I can think of are most Arab/Middle Eastern countries and Switzerland. There are also a bunch of countries in Africa that have a lot of tribal fighting, and frequently enough one ethnic group is forced out of that country and their citizenship is rescinded.

Not sure, but not all of them, like some people answered. Foreign workers in many countries who have kids dont automatically have local citizenship for their kids....It may not seem right, but many countries have seen abuse on this....anyone born in Canada is a Canadian, but I have heard stories of women from China who were 8.5 months pregnant coming to Canada for a vacation, just so their kid could be born here and then they have Canadian citizenship, thus allowing them to sponsor thier parents to here years later...It happens!

Not sure but that needs to change.
American law needs to end the practice of granting automatic citizenship to children of illegals. It makes no sense to me.... That's like another reward for breaking the law... It needs to stop...
My brother and sister were born in Europe to American parents they are Americans not Europeans..

Well, if you are born in a country, you would automatically become a citizen because it is the only country you have ever been in. Seems logical to me.
