At work maybe you should post a sign tell them about the smell of popcorn. Plus, tell them to stand by the popcorn while it's cooking. So when the popping slow down they can stop the microwave and record the time for people who make popcorn in the future.

I am pretty sure everyone hates that smell, I know a few people who don't even eat popcorn because of it's smell when it's not burnt (weird?).
Anyone who answers no, clearly doesn't own a microwave or have a distinct sense of smell.

no i love the taste and smell.. i think this is because when my mom first got a microwave i was about 10 and when she did make the pop corn she also served it to us a little brown or somewhat burnt. i thought this was the way it was and enjoyed it...now i know better and make it the right way. but there are those days when i like the house to smell that way for memory purposes and i need to have that taste...yuck i know but i'm honest.

And it won't be the last time you ever smell that hideous odor. But, on the opposite end of the olfactory spectrum is that wonderful scent of hot buttery popcorn, fresh, hot and perfectly prepared.....yum =)
Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad .....just don't take as much of the bad!!

Have you ever smelt burning trash that a neighbor might of thrown a tire in it? Burnt popcorn seems just as bad to me.

Yeah, that's pretty awful. And you're all trapped there smelling it for the next two weeks, huh? I hate that.
Here's another one, burnt cup a soup. I know, HOW can one POSSIBLY burn a cup a soup. Oh, it can be done. And when it is, it's rank!

Yes, the odor is unpleasant, but I enjoy eating the half popped kernels, even if they're burnt.
