We live in a society that (supposedly) is really big on the tolerance thing. Why doesn't that hold true regarding Christianity? If you pick on Blacks - excuse me, I mean African Americans - you're called a racist. If you pick on Muslims, you're called a fanatic Republican, since Islam is obviously such a peaceful religion. But Christians are made fun of and degraded in every manner imaginable, and everyone just laughs - and not just on a small one-to-one scale, but on the national scale: politicians, scientists, the media, you name it. Why?!?!?!?!?

83% may claim to be Christians, but that doesn't mean they really are... trust me, no Christian is going to go around badmouthing his own religion and calling other Christians some of the things I've heard them called by the liberal left...

Why should anyone really be picking on anyone else? Isn't that a simple way to reveal our own insecurities and ignorance no matter what religion? What is our own experience compared to those who we interact with and judge? All of us have individual relationship with God. No books or traditions need to inform us of that. Simply take in what is around you. God created all of it with no mistakes. Our country's forefathers knew this and made it clear that we are all created equal. This way we can have true freedom in our beliefs.
Christians are an easy target in general because they seem to prefer to categorize the rest of the population as aetheist or something removed from God. Their view is frequently very black and white. This basically insults the experience of many of us and shows that the real intolerance comes from those who are strongly locked into traditional theologies. All religions are subject to ridicule. All people are God's people.

WB is wrong and it is sad that he says he is a christian. It's amazing how we compromise.
People pick on Christians because we they are afraid of the unknown. They pick on us because we don't want to continue in sin and live a life where the path leads to destruction. If God didn't exist I wouldn't exist nd I wouldn't compromise with immorality like Homosexuality like so-called Christians do. I definitely wouldn't abort a baby that's partially mines.
For ur statement about African-Americans, we were not just picked on in the past and even now the present! We as AA'S are being stereo-typed daily with our jobs, neighborhoods and our way of living period. We re not just picked on because we are being profiled when we drive a nice Mercedes as a drug dealer when we are Highly educated than most whites! Racism still exist!

It is wrong. However, you need to be careful.
Depending on the way people view Christianity, you feel like you're being made fun of.
However, if science proves that the world is billions of years old, and you insist it is only 6,000 years old. I say you're wrong. I'm not making fun of you.
You can believe that homosexuality is a sin, and that's fine. When you try to pass laws based on your religious belief, you are trying to force your religion on me (and I'm a Christian, but my views may be different than yours) via the law, and I think that's wrong.
Be careful of using your religion to hurt the feelings of others, and then being upset when they respond. It's best to allow people to believe as they are going to believe and remain strong in your beliefs.
Oh, and there is the fact that Christians make up 83% of the country, so a lot of the "making fun" you reference is coming from people who identify as Christian.
And finally, it gets annoying when people say they are under attack when they make up 83% of the naiton. You're fine. No one is going to take your church away. I promise you that. If something upsets you, speak out. But if you upset someone, or one your church's tenets upset a group and they tell you that they're mad at you, then you're going to have to accept that.
That's the way the world works. If someone disagrees with you, it doesn't make them anti-Christian. Remember, many of us who are Christian have many different beliefs.
NOTE TO ASKER:
You say people are pretending to be Christian, huh? What gives you the right to decide whether or not they're Christian? Are you attacking Christians? I think you are.
Do you see how easy it is to take things as an insult or attack?

Well, one part of it is that many Christians are overzealous and quite fanatical in their own rights. Not all, mind you, but many impose their belief system without any regard for others -- I am a Christian, and I am open to others, but there are some who take some concepts too far. If a Christian refuses to hear another person's story, the person will refuse to listen to the Christian's story.

Christians have been responsible for some of the more heinous crimes of our society (The Crusades, The Inquisition) Many people see them as either extremists or phobics of the different or unknown. Tolerance is a two-way street. Spend some time in a religious chat room and see who is ranting the most.

Most people in this country are Christian or come from a Christian background, so people feel like it's ok because they're making fun of themselves, in a way. I find it really rude when someone deems it necessary to make fun of my beliefs to my face, and I make a point of telling them so because of the reasons you outlined in your question.

Easy. Cause everyone believes they are Right and everyone else, who doesn't think like them, is Wrong. Even those of the same religion.
And I pick on everyone. That way no one feels left out. ^_^

Are you serious? Just read this, please.
http://www.infidels.org/misc/humor/lioaca.html
-During the 1988 election campaign, George Bush said that Christians should not be considered patriots or real American citizens.
-Both major political parties are dominated by anti-Christians. The Republican party, for example, gave us such hardcore atheists as Pat Buchanan, Dan Quayle, Phyllis Schlafly and Ronald Reagan. And the Democrats have given us such personalities as the Rev. Martin Luther King and the Rev. Jesse Jackson both noted for their vicious attacks on all forms of Christianity.
-Let's talk about the media. On Sunday mornings, nearly all major television channels broadcast pro-atheist shows; it is nearly impossible to find religious programming during that time period. Further, Madalyn Murray O'Hair has her own cable TV channel, while Pat Robertson has been unable to obtain one for himself.
-It is almost impossible to find a shopping mall with a Christian Armory book store, while Atheist Book Centers are featured prominently on every corner.
-For that matter, churches themselves are extremely rare, while atheist meeting centers can be found every few blocks.
-Recently, several atheists have shot and killed Christian priests as they were going to work in their churches. Similarly, atheists are well-known for blockading churches on Sunday mornings.
Nearly all of our elected public officials are atheists; they even have to swear on a copy of Darwin's "Origin of Species" in order to take office.
-In a similar vein, jurors must take an oath upon a copy of the Skeptical Inquirer before they can serve. There have even been court cases thrown out because one of the jury members was a Christian who insisted on swearing on a Bible.
-And of course, people are free to wear pentagram jewelry, but those trying to wear cross-shaped earrings or pendants to work will be politely told to remove the jewelry or lose their job.
-Speaking of the workplace, Christians often find it nearly impossible to get time off work for religious holidays such as Christmas.
-Even our language reflects the radical anti-Christian bias that pervades our society. For example, when somebody sneezes, most people say "Darwin bless you." Similarly, "Voltaire dammit!" is a common cussword.
-All of our money has the atheistic slogan "We do not trust in God" printed on it.

Our Religion is the only religion that makes sense and has the most logic to it. ANd remember, god said that his people would in the end be the most persecuted, and aster christianity was started, we became gods people.
