Celexa is an antidepressant medication, though there are other off-label uses for it as well. Antidepressant medication work by "fixing" or "rearranging" your brain chemicals. This takes a while to work. Ususally if it's not working in 3-4 weeks, it means it probably won't work at that dose. That doesn't mean that the medication will not work for you, it just means the dose needs to be higher.

For side effects, you may feel a little funny for the first 3 or 4 weeks. The most common side effects are tiredness, weight gain or weight loss, possibly mild headaches, and dry mouth. The side effects usually will not last longer than 3 or 4 weeks, but if you can't tolerate them, you need to talk to your doctor so he or she can change the dosage. The good thing is with the new medications like Celexa and a few others, trhere sre less side effects and if there are side effects, they are more tolerable.

Be patient with this. Basically if the medicaiton is not working within like 3 or 4 weeks, you should go back to the doctor and see if he/she will alter the dose. Good Luck and hope you feel better.

You may not feel any effects nor side effects at all. Usually therapeudic drugs take anywhere from 4-6 weeks of regular prescribed dosage to start taking effect properly. I've taken similar drugs and had to be blood tested after 4 weeks to determine the proper dopsage and increase/decrease if needed. Not everybody experiences the same side effects, and most likely you wont feel any different physically- but hopefully you'll get the results that it was designed for. Good Luck!!

It takes about three weeks to build up in your system. During those three weeks, you will feel very tired and sleepy. I recommend that you take your pill at night before you go to sleep. Once Celexa takes affect, you will definitely feel the change. I didn't suffer any side effects, I just felt a heck of a lot better.

I took Celexa for about 8 months and felt nothing. No side effects, but no improvement either.

I've taken several different kinds of anti depressants, usually the first few days I get a little nauseous that only seems to last for a few days though, then within about 3 weeks you will know if its working or not. Good luck :)
