My vet is closed today and I didn't get an answering service. Should I worry about going to an emergency vet or wait a couple of days. We gave him 1/2 a benedryl last night and the other half this morning. We also bathed him with medicated dog shampoo this morning. None of this seems to have helped.

Sounds like an allergy. Just keep a watch on him and call your vet in the morning, you'll probably have to take him in. If he begins having trouble breathing or seems really lethargic, take him to the er vet!!!
(It could also be a ringworm infection... look at the link below and see if that helps)

Depending on his size he should be able to take a full adult benadryl every 8 hours. Definetly sounds like he is allergic to something, maybe if he has had vaccines recently or if he was bitten or stung by some sort of bug. I don't think an emergency vet is needed unless he for some reason stops breathing like if the allergy made his throat swell shut just like people, but if he has been this way since last night, I doubt that will happen.

Sounds like he's having an allergic reaction to something. You might want to check out petmeds articles for assistance until you can get him in to the vet. They have an entire section on symptoms and treatments for pets.

Good luck...hope he'll be ok.

Boxers are prone to rashes. My friends is allergic to her living room carpet. Benadryl helps, it may make the dog drowsy but will help with the itching. Was your dog laying on something different? My Mastiff is allergic to wheat, there I am checking places for it and always bringing her blankie...Mandy
