I have a large number of old home movies that were turned into .AVI files. I want to edit them, and burn them on a DVD so they can be watched on a TV.
What is the best software for this? I looked at Nero Ultimate 7, and it seems to have the features I need, but I was wondering if there were any others? If there's free software that does it, great, but cost isn't the issue; I want software that will do the job. It must be able to read & edit the .AVI format, and burn a DVD usable on a regular DVD player.

I should have clarified that it's for a PC, with Windows XP Pro.
Yeah, Macs are great for this stuff, but I'm not going to invest thousands for a new computer to edit some movies.

Have you heard a software name " Let's Edit ". My friend, he is a home-base editor and has won many prizes using this software. Very friendly-user. Easy to use. You will find it even easy if you already know how to use Photoshop. It consists something they call layers. It should be easy for you.

Use a Macintosh. Mac has great software for video.

Final cut is considered the best. Some TV shows use it for post production. Also, once you learn to use it (not hard) you are in the video production business as its a professional product
