They say you're only supposed to lose 1-2 pounds a week when dieting with exercise. People who can lose 5 or more pounds in a single week are usually big enough that they need to lose far more than just five.
Are you trying to make weight for something, or are you trying to trim down that extra 1/4 inch?
If you can stomach it, overload on water. Yes, you'll have to pee all day every day, but they say drinking water will help you expel water your body has retained, so there's one. Also, you'll want to eat several very small meals throughout the day. I don't eat very much, so I have to eat about every 2 hours.
Concentrate on foods that are high in fiber. Salads are good to minimize hunger, and don't have many calories at all. Try just some lettuce & spinach (cold & leafy) with lemon juice. It's bland & not wonderful, but it'll fill you up, you'll burn the caloric intake, and it'll make you poo...which also will bring down your weight just a little bit. I like to warm up frozen veggies in the microwave & use a little butter-type spread a couple times during the day, as lunch. Same effect as the salad. Go to the frozen foods section at Wal-Mart and pick up some California Style & Italian Style vegetable mixes. It's decent.
If you can't do water, get some Crystal Light mix. It's either low- or no-cal.
Lay off excessive sugar. If you MUST have it, use Equal instead. That's also no-cal.
Take a brisk walk for at least half an hour every day. If you're a little more athletic, go for a jog or take a bike out.
If you can stick with that for a week, you may be able to drop that five pounds. But if you're moderately active anyway, you might just build muscle, so you may not see dramatic results. If you build your muscles working out....muscle weighs more than fat, so the needle on the scale might not move much, BUT you might still lose a little around the middle.

Personally, I maintain a good level of fitness at all times. My weight usually fluctuates within +/- 5 pounds. If I have an upcoming event and want to lose those 5 pounds I just simply do sprints. It jump starts whatever plateau I am at currently. It sucks while you're doing it but the results are proof that it's worth it. This is also for someone who may be discouraged on their trip through weight loss that has stalled.

There are three main ways to lose weight quickly.

1) Use only water as liquid and eliminate all other liquid drinks from your diet. You must drink as much water as possible every day. You must drink about half of your weight. If you have weight of 200 pounds then you must drink about 100 oz of water.

2) The interval between the eating is very important. If you eat once, then you must eat next after 4 hours. You must take breakfast regularly. In the night eat your food three hours before going to bed.

3) Walking is very good. You must walk as much as you can. Walk everywhere you can. Use of elevators and escalators must be reduced and instead of these you must climb stairs more often.

These are some of the fastest ways to lose weight. By just following the simple steps, you can lose your weight very quickly. You must consult your doctor if want to change your diet or exercise routine.

If you search this category in your search engine, alot of "diet pill" ads will come up, this i do not feel is the way to go. To stay healthy while dieting, you MUST be able to lose 1 - 2 pounds SAFELY every 2 days or so. To do this the easy way.... Try counting calories. There are good calories and then there are Negative calories. The good calories include, fruits and veggies. Add up all the calorie intake, then try to work it off. In a walk for an hour and a half at a regular to medium speed, can take off 365 calories. Cleaning the house for an hour can burn 300 calories, and medium arerobic workouts can take off about 700 calories. So try to burn off what you eat and you'll see the weight come off! DIET PILLS DON'T WORK.

What is your age???

Generally you gain weight because of fats deposits, just dissolve them. How?

People go for losing weight by pills or starving.

Pills do not act effectively and for longer durations. Pills have many side effects for your health.

Starving weakens you and your defense system is also weakened. This makes you less resistant against infactions and other diseases.

The best way is to lose weight by change of diet and your physical activities.

1. Reduce or stop to take oils and fats.
2. Stop taking sugar and glucose. (Mainly tea, coffee & cold drinks.
3. Stop taking potato, rice.
4. Reduce wheat and corn as much as possible.

Take vegitables, boiled meat, fruits (even sweet).

And at the top of all:

Walk at least 40 to 60 minutes twice a day.

You will start losing weight to the extent of daily difference.

I am sorry but I do not think it's possible to loose more than 2 pounds in a week. Maybe when you first start your diet due to water loss but not long term. You have to consume 3500 calories less to loose a pound. That would mean you would have to eat 17,500 calories less each week to loose 5 pounds. IMPOSSIBLE..

you can do it, just keep at it, eat right and lots of exercise...every little bit helps.. .One thing that works for me is: before I eat, I drink a large glass of water, then if I'm still hungry, I won't eat as much as I would have. It's better to eat 5-6 small meals than 2 or 3 regular meals each day. also, fyi: 1 pound = 3500 calories. If you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose weight. ie, if you eat 2000 calories per day and burn 2500, you will lose 1 pound every week. the average person burns 1000-1500 calories per day, just being alive. power walking can burn 200-500 calories per hour. exercise bike can burn 200-600 calories per hour. swimming can burn 100-800 calories per hour. jogging/running can burn 300-1200 calories per hour. Also, try not to eat within 3-4 hours of going to sleep. *********VERY IMPORTANT************ when trying to lose weight, very important to drink lots and lots of water ! ! ! You should drink at least 10 glasses per day, like 1 glass every hour ! This helps your body get rid of the fat when you are burning calories.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
