That's nothing compared to the story of Bathsheba. He thought she was beautiful, so he wanted her for his wife. Alas, she was married to one of David's loyal soldiers, so David arranged for Uriah to be sent to the frontlines of a battle, where he was killed. Then he took Bathsheba as his own. She, of course, had no say in the matter. This sort of wonton cruelty was very typical of David, yet he is called a man of God and was always one of God's favorites--indeed, Jesus Christ is proudly proclaimed to be descended from this murderer! Throughout the O.T., God favors those who are crafty, cruel, and devious, and David fits the bill on every point.

The Moabites were a cruel nation and David was instructed to take them captive but to put some to death. Sometime in war, you have to be what some would call cruel but if you do not do it, what happens then? More lives lost because you did not do what it was that you are told to do in order to save more innocent lives. It is like the war in Iraq now. If you came upon some of the men that kill and maim hundreds of innocent people every day and to get them you had to kill two kids these persons were holding to make sure you would not shoot them, what would you do? Let them go like they want and them continue to kill thousands or take them out along with two kids so thousands more could live? Sometimes the choices are not real good but they have to be made. As for the family members, does that not go on today, favoritism? Hey, I see it as if I can be the favorite, fine, but if someone else is the favorite and I can at least get what I need, who really cares? Just because some are favorites or get preferential treatment does not mean the others are not just as important. If a big star came to town and I came to the same town, who is going to get the best treatment, me or the star? You can bet your life it would be the big star but does that make me any less important? Let them have their fun in the sun and the glory now because in the end they may be on the other side and I may be in Heaven and then who is going to be the more important person? Status is something that is fleeting so why worry about it here. I may be a nobody here but in Heaven I am somebody!! I would rather be the somebody in Heaven than to be somebody here and miss out.

When the children of Israel came out Egypt, God told them to bypass the Moabites, and not to go to war with them. However later the Moabites became enemies to the children of Israel, and came against them, so God allowed David to defeat them. When David defeated them, he killed two thirds of the people and kept one third alive to become his servants.

The Moabites were enemies of the nation of Israel. Back then, it was common to slaughter the enemy. David was a military genius.
