sit ups strengthen muscle...they don't burn fat.
You need to do 2 things:
1) sit ups to strengthen muscle
2) running or some aerobic exercise to burn fat
If you do (1) without (2)..you will have strong muscles covered by a layer of fat.
If you do (2) without (1)...you will slim down and have no strength or definition.
Start running AT LEAST 40 minutes a day, 5 days/week. AND keep doing your situps , crunches, twists, etc.
You absolutely will get results!

To shrink your stomach, or any part of you, requires an overall decrease in calories consumed, or an increase in calories burned, or ideally a combination of both. The best way to burn calories is through aerobic activity, such as running, biking, or swimming. Concentrating on one exercise, such as sit-ups, is generally counterproductive after a while. But a combination of exercises, and adoption of healthy eating practices, should give you the results you desire. Good luck!

If it's belly fat that you're trying to eliminate, you need to understand that by crunching constantly, you're working those muscles. They will tone and build UNDER the FAT, essentially making you actually look bigger.
What you need to do when battling the bulge is elevate your heart rate. An aerobic workout for 30-60 minutes several times a week WILL help you burn fat. Just remember to work at burning more calories than you consume, and work at consuming HEALTHY calories. Drink plenty of water, eat your veggies, and if you must have sugar, use Equal or other no-calorie sweetener instead.

Doing situps won't have the effect of lypo and target body fat in your stomach. No doubt, your stomach muscles are getting stronger. It is impossible, however, to shrink just your stomach. You would have to lose all over body fat to see an effect on your tummy.

Sit-ups/cruches alone will do nothing. You need to get rid of the fat covering your stomach muscles. In order to do that, only cardio will work; getting your heart rate up there. Once the fat is gone, you will have kick-*** abs!!!!
