Paint.NET, http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/
OR
PhotoPlus, http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/PhotoPlus/default.asp

Both are freeware. For quick touching up look for, Irfanview, http://www.irfanview.com/ or Picasa, http://picasa.google.com/

Yeah, you aren't alone, I hate the GIMP as well. With a passion.

If you don't like the GIMP, there aren't too many good options out there, unless you have a friend that has a copy of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

You could try Google's Picassa editing/organizing program, from the link below:

Otherwise, I would ask around and find someone who has a copy of Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. It pays to know computer geeks. . .

Actually, I find that the GIMP and Photoshop are not user friendly. In my opinion, MS Paint is the easiest and best graphics there is.

use a p2p program, bittorren, or newsgroup. you should be able to down load popular and powerful graphics program for free. it might entail some cracking but those are usually provided by the poster. i find that to be more useful than installing freeware because you can actually gain knowledge and experience using the commercial product in the real world.
