From what I understand, when you build muscle, you burn more calaries because the presence of muscles burns calaries (through out the entire day). So, if you have more muscles, you burn more calaries in a given day and you lose weight.
I think it depends on the type of weight program you're on. If you are trying to build a lot of muscle, you may gain more weight (but lose the fat).
I would speak to a personal trainer that could recommend a workout that won't build mass. Likely low weights, lots of repetitions.

When you first start any kind of exercise program, you will lose some weight. Keep in mind that muscle weighs more than fat. You will eventually start to gain weight. Eat a lot of fish and chicken as they are high in proteins and try to increase the amount of weight that you are lifting every couple of weeks if possible.

Weight lifting will help you lose fat and keep muscle as long as you don't over train by doing a ridiculous amount of reps and sets. Don''t focus on body weight. Focus on how your clothes fit and how you look in the mirror. Eat protein frequently, every 3 hours. Reps in the 6-8 range.Last but not least, KICK A-- in the gym. Good Luck.

Not always.
But it is hard not too.
You can maintain your current weight or try to gain with heavier weight and longer rests between sets.
Honestly, diet is the most important thing. Protein!!!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
Get started today!

Lifting weights builds (tones) your muscles...only cardio workouts beat down fat. You have to get that heart rate up in order to burn fat and in turn lose weight.
