They are waking up and thinking on their own. Their eyes are opening. It is fun to watch, like a baby taking its first steps. We don't need religion anymore, we can be our own moral compass. It has served it purpose and run it course, so let the die hard go down with the ship.

Many leave and many join. It is largely a matter of inner needs and where people are at any given point in life. There is an interesting "Taxi Pastor" in NYC who lives his faith 'outside' of organized religion - so he says. But in fact, he depends on the structures of organized religion to help him in his own method of pastoring. Here is the link to a little video with him. Interesting guy.

Because they are starting to realize how empty it all is. They are all mainly social clubs for like-minded people. You don't see much getting done by organized religion within any given community. (I am including ALL organized religion here.)

Quite the opposite is true. Christianity is growing at record numbers all over the world. And it is growing faster than any other religion. Evangelical Christian groups are growing the fastest. At it's current rate, in a straight-line projection, (and straight-line projections don't hold up) the entire world would be Christian in less than 20 years. That won't happen until we have been through the Tribulation period and Jesus returns. But that is coming soon I think.

Some people finally learn to use common sense. Organized religion is mind control and violent and harmful to humanity.

Indeed, many formerly deceived and bewitched people are finally retiring from the hypocrisy, partiality, and lies (such as you too can have partiality from an impartial God) of organized religion... impure religion... churches noted for causing "division" (of Jesus: born under the law) rather than "peace" (of Christ: the end of the law), "sacrifice"(which God never desired nor ever took pleasure in) rather than "mercy"(only thing obtain-able at throne of grace, as if the incorruptible crown), "law" rather than "grace".
Many are realizing it's not wise to feed the trolls, who trouble the water, then charge a troll toll to cross their bridge over troubled water.
The number of Out of Chruch Christians is ever growing:

Yet such are not leaving off seek & find, simply leaving the hypocrisy & partiality of churchy legalism, to "find grace", "in time"; which is as leaving the Jesus part of Jesus Christ for the Christ part of Jesus Christ, which is leaving the division of Jesus for the peace of Christ: he is our peace who hath abolished the law from his flesh, flushed it as if it were dung, and also made a clean wipe, since a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

I don't know that so many are leaving, but as a Catholic, I can see frustration that the church is spending so much time adhering to "tradition" that it can't help its flock with everyday matters. Couple that with an absolutely HORRIBLE response to the molestation scandal in which the congregations are now responsible for footing huge settlements while those guilty of hiding the molestation are still running the church. (ie: Archbishop Thomas Kelly in Louisville).
