Because they make some (maybe most) of the basic stuff used by our military (ask about the computers used to send missles into iraq from the pentagon (Chinese probably). And they clearly make the majority of the daily things we use (I checked my shirt and pants (India and China made)).
Unless we are serious in protecting human rights and democracy (false arguments for Iraq war), we will never embargo China.

Actually China has been trying to keep North Korea in check has in the past helped the world avoid some bad situations that could have arisen. By no means China wants us to launch an attack on North Korea, conventionally and certainly not nuclear. China is too close to North Korea and really does not want another conflict to start. They are a bit less public about their actions between them and North Korea. Also our media does not see covering this as part of their agenda, so we only get the news (not necessarily the facts) they care to feed us.
We are moving into a global economy and China is only a part of it. Many of the countries on that side of the world are big players in the world market now. An embargo now would be more of a burden on the US than it would be for China. China still has Europe and the rest of the world to market their goods and services to. As they are less expensive than most they will always have a market for goods and services if there was an embargo.

i think our propping up of a failed economic system has been really a reward for attempting capitolism and a "bribe" to maintain peaceful relations with china. We have destroyed our own economy to do this. We have lost our industrial base and it doesn't seem we can compete in sales of manufactured goods even though their products lack quality. Face it a $39.00 bench grinder from china isn't nearly as good as an American made bench grinder but a comparable American made might cost $180.00 (and the American company is losing money at that price) but the average consumer isn't going to pay the difference...why?...mainly because he's probably already lost his job to foreign competition and outsourcing. There is no way American businesses could have ever competed with what amounted to in many cases prison labor (a lot of chinese goods had a 0 labor cost because they used forced prison labor to manufacture goods). Fair tarriffs were never put in place and I think it was out of fear of "offending" the chinese. It's almost too late now..the focus of our economy and our workforce has seemed to have forever changed. To top it all off we are now borrowing money from china and are in debt. Embargo on China...it will never happen....our economies are now too closely intertwined. I'm not arguing politics here..or against this particular or any particular administration, but globalists in general have sold this country down the river lock, stock, and barrel, and they aren't finished. No..it's too late for anything like an embargo. At this point I think we need to rely on china as a "friend" (at least a business partner) to rein in this wacko before we have to take drastic measures, and to rely on china to understand our predicament so they can spank Kim Jong Il and send him to bed without his supper. Either that or we reduce north Korea to rubble.

Hee hee hee!
Thanks for the laugh this morning.
If you want an answer, simply walk through your local Wal-Mart. Take a look at 90% of the goods in there. They will say "Made in China" or "Made in Taiwan".
If YOU want cheap consumer goods then you're a slave to Chinese manufacturing. Simple.
THAT's why China will not only have an embargo placed upon it, but it's why the US continues to grant "Preferred Nation" status on China.
It's funny how money buys pretty much anything huh? It can even buy a blind eye that can't see human rights violations!

Because we depend on them too heavily for too many of our trade goods. China has one of the strongest economies in the world currently, with a consistent 2% growth every year for more than twenty years. And that's HUGE.
