As a Jew, I see your point, but why should a balanced argument be provided? Christianity is a missionary religion, where persuading others to join is acceptable if not encouraged.

If you were trying to persuade someone would you give equal time to each religion or would you talk about the benefits of your religion and assume the other person already has reasons not to join? In this sense, a biased argument is the right thing to use, especially since many would say that a soul is doomed to go to hell unless it is in the body of a Christian.

Basically, this mental state bothers me, but I feel that most of the time, such an attitude is understandable. If you do not like these kinds of people, just ignore them or see how they react by pretending you are baffled that they are Christians. (Trust me, the pretending thing is a lot of fun.)

By the way, I'd like to add that most Christians, as far as I can tell, are not the kind of people the question refers to.

Any intelligent person knows religion is a way to control the masses of people. No one ever believed fanatics would come out certain sects of religous beliefs and frighten the world with no way to control them. Rather than any and all religions taking the time to teach their followers the beliefs of other religions and the other beliefs are pretty close to their own. They try to separate make themselves look better. If I were a Catholic would I trust a son alone with a Priest. Hell NO. Why would the so called GOD allow so many Priests molest so many young boys. A human being wouldn't. Why would a GOD. You are supposed to look at the GOD as the savior. Shouldn't this savior protect us rather than let our kids be molested, let Presidents start wars and young men be killed. I am confused. Why would such a good person let his only son be killed for me. Why do we have to be perfect for him. If he wanted us that why didn't he make us all perfect. Why didn't cave men have bibles. If your really believe in such a thing that is cool because everyone needs a belief. As the young man said that asked the question most people shout at you and it is only because they do not have a real rebuttal.

While I personally loathe the church and the the foundation of Christianity, I still believe there is a supreme being out there. I dont necessarily believe in the god we are worshipping right now. But someone who is the core of this all. I mean, how else can we explain everything else with pure logic and reasonable argument?

"anything that can be explained by human knowledge is not in the domain of God, so the role of God is therefore confined to the 'gaps' in scientific explanations of nature."

You should read more about what theoligians have to say about religion. They're thought provoking and at the same time they opens your eyes to alot of things.

My deep seated sense of loathing against the dogma of the Christian church also opened me to alot of things that I was previously unaware of. I refuse to follow a leader who believes himself to be the representative of god. It's just... absurd.

Well however you choose to believe in God or religion itself, its your choice. But one word, there will always be people trying to manipulate you. So be careful.

Anyway, the irony of it all is that I'm a Christian myself.

They have reason to come after you. Many think god wants them to convert people to Christianity. They think doing that will make them look better in the eyes of god. They will try to convert us out of fear. Maybe they have lived "sinful" lives, and want to make up for it, and atheists are there way out of hell. There seems to be a bounty on the atheists, and any of a different religion. They will try to convert anyone, and if you don't, then they get mad out of fear. They may say that they just get mad because you offended them, but would that not mean that they had their christian pride hurt. Sinful. As an atheist, I am speaking from experience.

Jesus had a wonderful message. Hopefully you will not be turned off to his teachings by the aggressive, insensitive Christians out there.

Peace be with you.

If they annoy you so much why ask offensive questions? You expect them to agree with you? What annoys me most are people that put down someone's religion or political beliefs. That's a "no-no" & It will NEVER change a person's beliefs!
