This kind of question is interesting to me. Some churches split over the topic.
If it's not mentioned as something in the Bible that you should do, should you do it? If it's not mentioned that you shouldn't do something, should you do that?
To quote John Ortberg, "The Bible doesn't say anything about going over Niagra Falls in a barrel, but that doesn't mean you should do it!"
My opinion: If the Bible doesn't address the issue, then we are free to decide either for ourselves or as a society what is best.
Others will disagree on this one.

They are mentioned in the psalms and are not forbidden anywhere in the Bible.. Enough things are forbidden, we do not need to make up our own list.. God did just fine with his..
I agree with the first answerer, cars and airplanes are not mentioned in the bible, can we take the car to get to church??? Jesus didn't wear a 3 piece suit to church, can I?? It is clearly outlined what is sin and what not so we choose in the guidelines given. In the OT they used instruments to worship, so why would it not be permitted now.. On the same line if it is forbidden to use guitar, drum, keyboard, then it would also be forbidden in christian music cd's. RIGHT???

It does not say anything in the Bible about mechanical instruments because they weren't invented yet when the Bible was written.

Yes neither is carpeting, wearing modern suits, baptism outside of the Jordan river, and 1000's of other things. You've stumbled upon the Church of Christ is my guess. They are a terrible self-rightous cult...run from these people they are really screwed up...really they are. I was raised that way...most don;t have a clue to what the bible teaches...they just follow these crazy doctrines they've made up to make themselves feel more religious...they are NOT.
RUN, RUN, RUN..........

There are no references to instruments mentioned in the New Testament. Therefore some churches have taken this to mean there shouldn't be in the modern day church.

What is a mechanical instrument? What are you asking?
All religions are manmade and the forms are according to church ritual.

It never states it. As long as you aren't worshipping the instrument it doesn't matter.

I think the Old Testament had something about musical intruments being bad. my mother in law was telling me about it. for the most part, churches don't abide by that, but some stricter ones do.
