First of all like the New York accent. Then speak that way all the time even when you don't sound so great at it. Over time your accent will improve. Since you are moving there it will make it easier for you to pick it up.

Whatcha want? Whatcha doin? You got a roll a qaudiz for laundry?
Where ya goin? How ya doin?

Linda = Linder/ Parkchester = Parkchesta

If you are going to be living in the City (Manhattan) there will be a lot of people who speak "normally" there - because they come from places other than NY. It is usually the other 4 boroughs (Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens) where you'll find the heavier accents (and you may wind up working with some of them)

there are tapes you can get from barnes and noble or a big library. You can definitly find them from any theatre company. Maybe theyd let you borrow it. Im from New Jersey, so i have a Jersey accent, maybe a New York accent is something like mine? I've never heard of a "New York accent" before though...Heres examples of a NEW JERSEY accent. dog = dawg. talk = tawk. and so on. coffee= cawfee. its really a terrible accent to have, it really degrates you sometimes.

it's not really a learning process. it comes naturally. But if you really want to have the accent, maybe, speak in english with the accent as often as you can!! Good Luck!

honestly you'd have to live there for a few yrs. to pick it up correctly. heads up though vowels are fast and blend w/ the rest of letters in the work. ex. coffee is more like cuf-fe

You have to have been born there, but it would probably take you years to learn the dialet.
