the leaks can happen any time and I have to create a check list of electronics items so that I check regularly. Branded batteries also leak....The chemical is corrosive and can damage electronic board or componets. how to combat this problem?

If the cells are not very old and the item is kept at a normal domestic temperature and humidity there is very little risk of a problem even if unused for several months.

But the only really secure way is to take the cells or the battery out of the device, as suggested by the previous correspondent.

If you are not going to use the item for over a week or so, take the batteries out.

inspect the batteries periodically to check for signs of failure/leakage.

you need to inspect more often in more humid environments, and as the batteries get older.
