:) Never really hosted a dinner before. It will be 4 ppl. What would you say is the best meal to cook-- especially when I'm not a particularly good cook, but I want to make a good impression/meal.

And I do not want to order take-out. Something home-cooked. Any suggestions?

Ask your BF what they really like and don't cook that. You know that they will always compare that to their own...I would cook something that is simple and not cut into your visiting time. You need something with few dishes to wash when you're done. I think what I'd do is to buy some steaks, or chicken, or pork chops and have your BF barbeque them. You'd have to prepare the baked potatoes or potato salad, lettuce salad and dessert. I know it would be easier and less stressful if both of you prepare the meal.

Ok, ask him some of the foods they like to eat, and what their favorite food is. Fix something they like because they will appreciate the effort to cook something they like. Do not fix their favorite, or something that his mom cooked all the time because in her eyes, it will be a poor attempt at what she has already perfected.

Pot Roast with potato's, carrots, onions, celery and cabbage and corn bread muffins with butter.
You can cook it all in 1 pan in a boil in a bag or pressure cook it.
Corn muffins come in a box all you do is add milk and stick them in the oven.
You can also do this in a crock pot.
