Like most of the 10 commandments, thou shalt not kill it is a good general principle but it doesn't hold up to the complexity of the real human condition and the real world.

Most people would kill in order to defend their own life. Most people would kill in order to save the lives of a family member. Many people would kill to save the life of a stranger who they felt was being threatened. Of course war gets much more complicated and abstract but most soldiers feel that they are in reality saving lives by killing others. The men who dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had to feel that they were doing the right thing and saving more lives than they were killing.

Of course kings, queens, popes, preists and presidents have all killed in the name of God. For them that was justification. I see no purpose in that justification alone.

Killing out of anger, killing for robbery, killing for perverse sexual reasons, killing for just for power and control or killing for no reason at all. All of these are obviously wrong.

we humans are so blind do we even know where . these words came from,, was it not the human that wrote all the words that are,, why have we not found or seen anything written by the hands of the man they call Jesus or the creator of this world. do we think the creator cannot write or the son of the creator could not write in all the languages if he was the word and the word / became life.. why are we the human truly blind and follow such word as we shall not kill. why would anyone want to kill regardless of reason. is not life , the same for all .whicht has life. if you chose to kill that alone is Justice of the heart, no matter where, when, how, or any of the reasons the human chooses. all choices is personal and free .of the free will .no one can tell anyone what to do ,, we all will do as we chose.. laws simply bind and control the free will . we will still do as . our hearts wills.

IN the original hebrew its "You shall not murder" not you shall not kill.
There are many other laws besides the 10 commandments that clearly states the what where when.

As a result there is a place (and is stated in the Torah) for the gov't to put people to death.

Maybe it can't be manipulated, but it goes largely ignored in the Christian realm. It should be "Thou shall not kill unless you disagree with the race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender of the person you kill." More Christians would follow it that way.

By definition Manipulation is a shrewd or devious management, especially for one's own advantage...Anything from body parts to statements and anyone can be manipulated in life.

Perhaps it could even be a warning for those that take war so seriously. Why is one point of view worth fighting for and going to war over? When it finishes in one place, they take it on the road.

false.. it can't be manipulated..it's God's law..It's not a phrase it's a sentence..thou shall not kill *period* nothing more, nothing less.. it shouldn't suite to any religion or belief, they must follow it.

My translation says 'murder' and there is a difference between murder and killing. So -- yes, it is open to interpretation.

Given that Moses allowed the first born of every Egyptian family to be killed and then caused the drowing death of those who were after him, it is clear that he had exceptions as well.

It's a law of society, so yes it can be manipulated. There's always loopholes. One can claim self-defense, so then it doesn't look like murder.

Who believes in this biblical crap? Mostly those who believe are the ones who are killers... e.g. Christians
