ummm, HELL NO! There are too many preverts in the world to let my child put her pic online. I would only allow her to put them online if she had her profile blocked so only certain people could see the pics. Didn't you hear about the MYSPACE runaway? The 16 year old girl left Michigan and flew across the world to meet this 20 year old man that she met online and was going to marry him, CRAZY SH_T!

How would you stop them if they so desire in this day and age, there are internet cafe's, libraries etc. they may go to to get around anything at home. Communication with young people is the way, it has to be two way and non-confrontational. All you can really do is let them know how you feel, make sure they are informed of any potential dangers, then realize it's up to them. Also age has allot to do with it, my son is 14, he can not only bypass any filters in place but he's also figured out the main password to our computer twice. He does not even need our computer to do it somehow he knows how to create some kind of path into others computers. He's an honors student very tech savvy 4.5 GPA etc. etc. Young people know more than we ever will about computers and have a network of tech savvy friends you would not believe. Never underestimate the potential of young people.

I let my 13 yr old son join myspace. He showed me his friends from school on his list. He wasn't allowed to add anyone he didn't know from middle school personally.
A few of his friends and schoolmates lied about their age and had inappropriate websites, and since I know their parents pretty well, I made some phone calls. Some of the girls were showing way too much cleave, and their parents also got some phone calls. All of these middle schoolers cleaned up their websites pretty darn quick!
If you're a good parent, you'll show a good example to your child, and set ground rules such as these. Keep it clean, and keep it safe.

I don't see the pictures as a problem. I do however see a HUGE problem with all the demographic information. Regardless of age, it is inviting trouble. You need to point out to your niece's parents how many children are kidnapped (and worse) by predators that find their victims on the Internet. You could probably get statistics on that from your local police department or from the clearinghouse for missing and exploited children in your (or her) state. Also, see the below link for more information.

Pedofiles love myspace because they do not check out the profiles to make sure the kids are 18. Please do not take the chance of letting your child have a pic on their myspace. I would say do not even let them have an account at all.

Sorry for answering your qn, i'm not a parent. But i do know what parent should do because I know what is on the kids mind.
Well, I think is fine for your child to post picture, as long as you explain what kind of dangerous people their might attract and teace them how to deal with it.
There is no choice stopping your child from doing all this and kept he or she innocent. When people is innocent, they got cheated. Is fine for them to know bad stuff, as long as they don't do it.
Don't you think is better for them to understand the bad thing, than hide everything from them and cause them to be naive and causes them not sure about good and bad. Parent should EXPLAIN and not just by saying no or cannot, they need a reason.
When you tell your kids no, they might wanna find out why, and because of that, they try. When you tell them cannot, is because blah~ blah~ blah~ , they will understand more.
Sometimes kids do show off their parent for being understand infront of their friends. Like me, i like to let my friend know that my parent explain to me why they stop me from doing things.
When you explain more to them, they wouldn't lie to you about going where.
There is a case whereby a parent doesn't want his son to know about rape, so everytime before his child read the newspaper, his dad will cut out all the report and news about rape. But the father did not know that he's son go to the neighbour house everyday after his dad go work and borrow their newspaper and take note of what his daddy cut out.
So the all you trying to stop them and avoid them, the more they are interested in it.... So.... think carefully

Kids shouldnt post pictures anywhere on line unless you monitor what they are posting. All internet use should be monitored as the computer is a window predators can enter through.

It depends on the age of the child. No one under 18 is supposed to be on the site anyway.
