Hi! Any book by Eric Carle would be great....Try the Very Hungry Caterpillar, Brown Bear Brown Bear or Polar Bear Polar Bear.
Early elementary children enjoy the repitition, and if you read it with gusto, and ask open ended questions, they will sit still for the entire stories.
There are also many themes you can incorporate with these books!

The No David! books are favorites of my preschoolers. The author is David Shannon. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is another fav. Any Eric Carle, Leo Lioni, Ezra Jack Keats books are excellent for this age. Laura Numeroff is another good author and Jan Brett does good books for young children. www.everythingpreschool.com has lesson plans galore with books to go with all of them. Hope that helps!

i work with toddlers, so i can mostly tell u what i know they like.
chicka chicka boom boom
the very hungry caterpillar, head to toe, brown bear brown bear, (any eric carle books, they like the colorful illustratiions and repeating text) one gorilla, by Atsuko Morozumi (great for counting 1-10 and finding 'hidden' gorilla on each page) down by the station (they like the sing along) other great sing along books are all by Iza Trapani, and they are, i'm a little teapot, baa baa black sheep, oh where oh where has my little dog gone?, how much is that doggie in the window?, twinkle twinkle little star, row prow row ur boat, and the itsy bitsy spider. ( sorry to name all trapani books, but they really do LOVE them! it's the sing-along) also there were ten in the den (don't recall the author's name right now, but it's a group of animals and each one goes rolling out of the den, ending with "bump" and at the end only the mouse is left, and he misses his friennds so he runs out to be with them, and they all cuddle together and fall fast asleep. the kids really love to wait for and say the 'bump' in the right places!) anyway, these are what i can think of right now, hope it helps! and for older kids, i like the giving tree, and going on a bear hunt. when i worked with three to five year olds, they loved going on a bear hunt, both the book and the song on CD. also, a bad case of the stripes, and the stinky cheese man (different humorous take on fairy tales)
