Help. I have an older sister who has been on some kind of insane sexscapade for about 6 months. I love her to death. I am furious that she has been engaging in horrible and risky sexual situations. I have read everything I can on the Bi-Polar disorder. It seems to be part of the disorder. She has a daughter. I am now privy that appearently she is a gay as well. I don't understand. She has always been straight and normal, now I swear, I have no idea who the hell this person is. Living a secret weirdo sex life, being a gay and still dating men??? Who the hell is this person? How do you get help for them before they spin so out of control that they get killed or get a disease?? Do bi-polar people always turn into gays?? I don't feel comfortable being around her anymore. Sisters are supposed to be able to get dressed together, now I don't even want to be around her. I know it is wrong, I just can't take the gay part. Help please

If your sister is heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual, you should still be able to love her just the same. A person's sexual orientation doesn't really change who they are.

And honestly, I find it disturbing that you "just can't take the gay part" when there are much larger issues here:

If you are worried for her safety because of promiscuity, then you need to tell her so and encourage her to seek help.

If you think she is an unfit mother, then you need to contact the appropriate authorities and have your niece put in a more stable environment, at least until her mother gets herself together.

Get over the gay part. That's all I'm going to say about this. If she were only gay or bisexual, there would be no issues here. But there is a problem, she is apparently having loads of indiscriminate sex, for a while now. Yes, that is a symptom of mania. If you have seen her in episodes of depression, where she lies around doing nothing, or cries, and doesn't go out for days, then she is Bi-Polar. Tell her that you are concerned about her sexual behavior because she is very active and indiscriminate. Tell her that you're concerned about her emotional state and that you think she should see a doctor. Leave all morality out of this. Regularly sleeping with strangers is what is worrisome, not whether she is gay or bi. Don't argue. Just relate the message and let it simmer and sink in.

I am not quite in the same situation but it seems that your sister might be going through a time in her life where she needs someone to be there for her and as her sister that is what you need to do. I am HIV+ and if my family did'nt wanna be around me or did'nt give me the support they did i think i would have ened my life when i found out 11 years ago. so i suggest speak to her, find out what's going on in her mind and stand by her.

You should not be affraid of being naked in her prescence as gay or lesbian people tend to respect the fact that others are straight, i say this from experience as i live with a gay couple and am totally comfortable walking arround the flat in all my glory wearing only my birthday suit and they do not even notice that i am there, yes you might get the occasional comment thrown your way but its only a laugh. Best of luck Rui C

BI-POLAR is an illness and should be checked for the child's sake but with it comes manic highs and manic lows She really needs to see someone about it in 1991 i was diagnosed with manic depression (bi-polar) (i have recently got back on meds )
mood swings are they severe yet if so go to a professional seek their advise now before it is too late cause if she gets down it could be bad REAL BAD ! ! !
