I am a vet tech at a cat shelter and we run a low cost spay/neuter clinic. We spay and neuter about 60 cats a week and I can assure you, they CAN and ARE spayed while in heat and pregnant. There is no reason you need to wait. Depending on the vet, you may be charged a little more, but that is why cats should be spayed at or before 6 months.
GET HER SPAYED!!!!!!!!

For cats there is really no more risk than when not in heat. It may be a little more time for the sugrey, which is why vets may charge a little more. Dogs are a different story. The uterus on a dog gets more engorged with blood and becomes more of a risk of post-op bleeding.
In the 6 years of doing our spay/neuter clinic, I have seen no post-op bleeding and at least 70% of the cats we do are in heat or pregnant. There is no reason not to get he cat fixed now!!!!!!!!!

Most vets will tell you it is NOT recommended that female cats be spayed while in heat. They will only do this in case of emergency. Males on the other hand can be done at an time once the gonads have descended.
