Ask the different way round.
Believing (in any religion) is easy, you don't have to think.
Actually thinking prevents believing. And I prefer to think for myself. :-)

To me, the advances of Science, the most notable of which being Darwin's theory of evolution, has done a lot to explain away what, in the past, was put down to divine power. When Watson and Crick discovered DNA, humans were subsequently able to "play God" in the field of genetic engineering. These powers becoming accessable to humans has reduced belief in a divinity.

To make this short short and sweet, it boils down to a few things really.
1) People don't like being told what to do or feeling controlled. Acknowledging a higher power exists is to realize one's place in relation to that higher power.
2) People are angry at god. They want to know why he won't fix thing's if he really exists.
3) Many religions claiming to worship God/s have condoned and even promoted many terrible acts and genuinely evil deeds.

Some people have a hard time believing in things they can't see or touch. When something wonderful happens, they take it as it just happened. It is easier for some if they don't have to believe in anything. That is from having a bad childhood, where hell did it's work, and they suffered.

We are waking up to the lies.
More people are becoming Spiritual, and questioning what we have told to 'Just Believe'
We R All Our Own God. It Lives Within.

Because they are seeking for other answers which do not rely on blind faith. God and Satan are a perfect match. They both believe the same thing all the time. God is looking at his reflection.

the people who don't believe in god, or question the existance of god, what god stands for, what they see happening with their own eyes...................they don't believe because they have decided that they can't believe in a fair, just, loving god who can allow such suffering to mankind. that god should step in and change things to make humans be kind, gentle, caring people.............or maybe there is freewill and it's up to the humans to be all of those good things that they would like their god to be.

as children, we do not understand much of what we encounter and in the absence of knowledge, we fill the void with magic
this habit persists into adulthood and magic (god) is used to explain that which we do not understand
current human development and knowledge still leaves us with much that we do not understand and in this respect we are still children
some of us, realise our limits and understand that the mysteries of the universe are there to be answered, belief in our own ability to solve these mysteries is a far more intoxicating and ultimately satisfying state that writing these mysteries off as (god's) magic and not even seeking or opening our minds to the answers
free your mind!
