I have recently lost over 30 lbs. It took me two months to get to this point and I plan on going for some more. Losing weight is one of those things that you just have to talk to people about. I have found that in confiding with family and friends I get a kind of snide stand-offish response. Whats up with this?! I thought they would be happy for me! Any thoughts on this?

i have the same problem!!! i have lost 46 pounds and i feel like i cant talk to anyone about it.. i think it is jealousy. nobody wants to hear about someone elses success. It's really too bad. the only person i feel that i can talk to about weightloss is my husband.

Friends who are stand-offish and not supportive probably weren't really your friends to begin with. If they can't be happy and supportive, then you need to find new friends.

As for the family members, that's though. You can't find a new family. Some of my family is supportive and some aren't. They best thing you can do is just not worry about them. Easier said then done...I know. But you stay on track. Once they see how happy you are, they'll come along and be happy for you if. If not, then it's not your fault. They may have their own issues going on and can't feel happy for others until they feel happy about themselves.

Have you thought about joining a weight loss group? I was against them too, but they really do help!!! If you can't afford to pay to join a group, there are on line chat rooms, and other free sights out there. Until you're friends and family comes around, these groups can provide you with the support you need in the meantime! Here are some support groups I know of:

Jealous maybe? When I was younger, I lost 96 lbs and no one believed it was me. The only snide remark I received was the offhanded "she's using drugs, isn't she?" They could not believe that I was just determined to make myself better.

Keep up the good work. Do it for yourself, and no one else. Ignore them.

that's really great that you lost so much weight. As for your friends and family, perhaps its a "comfort level" for them. When they picture you in their minds, they have a certain image and now you're changing that image. It's like Oprah. Oprah is a beautiful woman who was a heavier than she is now. I liked her better heavier. Maybe it's just me. I'm sure that your family and friends are happy for you, as am I. Good luck and keep up the great work!

People are jealous and they wish they had the drive you have to lose weight, I had lost about 15lbs, and visited my family and my cousins said I was too skinny and talked about me behind my back. Its cool, keep doin what you doin, but I know the feeling of accomplishing something like weightloss, and you feel proud of yourself that u made your goal. Keep it up!

if they're over weight themselfs, they might be jealous of you, and wish they had the will power you do. and dont let it make you feel bad, thats something to be proud of, if you need to talk to people, you should join a group like weight watchers, ive heard that its a really supportive group. Because they are jealous that they dont have the drive you have to maintain good health.

Maybe it's coz they find that you are more focused on yourself than on them, or maybe coz they think you are spending less time in the house?

Could be they are either jealous or you may have come across as being smug.
