I have never had one, but I can suggest a book that will suggest other books.

The book is "The Dogs who found me" by Ken Foster. This guy is like a Dr. Doolittle, attracting dogs during his life. Some of them were bull terriers.

A lot of time what we think we want in a dog doesn't turn out to be what is best for us or the dog.

Please go here and honestly answer the questions and then see what it suggest in the way breeds fit you according to your answers.

It is apparent you are not ready to own a Bull Terrier by your question.

I also recommend you go to the book store and get the book Cesar's Way and read it. It's by Cesar Millan "The Dog Whisperer". If you don't know about him go here and read this article.

PLEASE DO NOT BECOME ANOTHER IRRESPONSIBLE DOG OWNER. Irresponsible owners of bull terriers get people hurt and killed by these dogs.

I have personally seen these dogs used to bring 2000 - 3000 pound bulls to the ground. They grab the bull by the snout and hang on. The Carbon dioxide of he dogs breath will eventually cause the bull to become disoriented and weak and drop to his knees and then lay down. The dog would hang on the bulls snout for 30 mins to 1 hr to bring it down. It would not kill the bull.

If you do not know how to be the pack leader to have control and dominance over this dog, you will be putting yourself, children and neighbors in risk of being severely hurt or killed.

Once a dog like this thinks he is the pack leader they become very aggressive in protecting their territory and other pack members. This is when children and others get killed.

A case where a 5 yr old boy was in the back yard with the families, loving and friendly, pit bull. The boy sat down in a depression the dog would normally lay in. The dog believing he was the pack leader went to the boy and bit him on the head. It crushed his skull and killed him. As leader of the pack the dog was punishing a lower rank member of the pack for laying in the leaders resting place.

In a dog pack, any member can punish or discipline a lower ranking member. They can never punish or discipline a higher ranking member. This is why a bull terrier must be the lowest ranking member of the family pack. He must know and understand he cannot discipline or punish any other member of the pack.

This is why you must know how and be willing to assume the leader position. If you can't or don't know how, then do not get a dog like this until you can.
