Good luck!!
If they are a danger to themselves or others they need to be hospitalized or given meds. Most times they can be controlled, bur like most mental health issues, they stop taking them. Meds can take a while to get up to a blood level that is helpful and may need to be monitored. A schizophrenic usually already has a psychiatrist or is being followed by a mental health center!

This is so hard, as a therapist I was faced with this more than once. If this is a loved one, explain how important their well-being is to you and that you love them but cannot handle their behavior when their disease is active. Explain that medication will make their lives more manageable, that they will be able to concentrate, adapt to society and live more comfortably without all of that noise in their heads.
Explain that you know they are afraid but that you know they are not "crazy," that it is a disease and that you want them to be happy so you would like them to see a doctor. If they had diabetes and needed insulin, they would take it wouldn't they? This is no different--it is a chemical imbalance in the brain and they need the medication to balance it out, there is no shame.
Sometimes, you, unfortunately, have to take a hardline, and if this is your child--force may be the only answer. Ultimatums to loved ones may be the only way to get them the help they need.
Once they have gone to the doctor, someone has to monitor their medication use. Most people with schizophrenia are not organized enough to make sure that they take their own medication. A family member may have to take an active role in this caretaking process. If this is the case, I highly suggest that the caretaker join a support group. Schizophrenia is a very difficult disease for a caretaker to deal with, you will need support and a caring environment for yourself. Let me know how this turns out, won't you?

i have schizophrenia i have had it since i was 6 years old. its unsual for a child to have it but it does happen.... i didnt get help for it until i was 23 because it started getting bad and no one believed me that i heard voices and see people that arent real... and for the one who said they stopping taking medication maybe thats what you would do but i have been on them for two years and havent stopped taking them yet. they are very benicial to me people who stop taking them usually do because they feel fine... schizophrenia is a progressive disease and it will disable you completely you can read more about it on www.schizophrenia.com has a lot of information... you cant make someone go the doctor to get help usually people who have schizophrenic have delusional problems and think that the doctors are out to get them..... please try and be paitient but if this person doesnt want help really in all honests truth there is nothing you can do.... goood luck to you and hope this helps

Can you try to get them there for a reason they would like to address? Let the Dr in on the method you are using and they'll take it from there.

I suppose you can lie to them like my mother did to me. She said we were going to the ER to get something for my anxiety. I agreed to that and saw a doctor and then they had me committed.

Good luck with that one...Usually you will have to wait until the person does something to endanger themselves and have them committed against they're will.If you can convince them...great...but they are so paranoid!!!
