Teach him to stay away from the door. When he gets near any exit door, tell him "NO" and squirt him with a squirt gun or spray bottle.
I would also suggest you look at getting a harness and leash.. that way, you can take him outside if you want and then he understands that this is the only way he can go out. You can also get large cages that you can sit on a deck or porch or in the grass.. you carry your cat out to the cage and put him in it so he can enjoy the sun..

I have a cat like that. He's very good at figuring out how to open unlocked doors. I had to put a hook lock on my sliding screen door and I have to keep all the other storm doors locked. It has gotten better since I started taking him out on a harness and leash. He craves the grass. Make sure that if you DO take him out get a HARNESS and not just a collar. Cats have a way of bolting outside after critters or because they are scared and a collar will choke him. Don't expect him to love the harness for at least a month. He'll do the low crawl for a while and might not even move at first, but after a while they get the idea and he will take you for WALKS OF ADVENTURE AND FUN before you know it. After that it's just a matter of putting up with whining and crying and carrying on during rainy days or just about any other time you don't have the time or inclination to CAT ADVENTURES. Mine is whining at the front door as I speak...:)

Well you don't have to keep him inside n e more. I was reading in a cat magazine that you can buy invisable fence for cats now. Just like with dogs you can put a perimeter around your yard and let him plat outside. drsfostersmith.com will have the info on the invisable fence.

As the owner of 3 curious cats you must be alert at all time when you open and closed doors. They just want to know what is on the other side.

He has a curious character, he wants to explore what's beyond your glass windows and wooden door.
Take him out for a walk (I know, it might sound like what you do to a dog) coz it's the only way your cat can venture through the outer world without being lost, coz you're right beside him.

Sometimes its hard to do. I put chicken wire around my back deck, and I allways stay outside with them. Keep your doors and windows allmost completely closed.
